Border control between Denmark and Germany has increased in the latest years, especially on the long distance passenger trains passing Flensburg. The custom's officers always board the trains, usually they look for people with a "southern appearance" sometimes they ask where you are from, if they notice a thick exotic accent they will ask for your passport.

The Denmark-Sweden trains are at times checked by customs, but not as frequently as the Germany-Denmark trains, because the Copenhagen-Malmö trains mostly consists of local commuters. The Öresund roadbridge customs are more demanding.

The last time I travelled from Helsingör, DK I saw that the swedish customs had stopped 2 estonian registered Audis in Helsingborg. Customs usually check young men driving eastern european registered premium cars. Swedish drivers may have loaded a few extra packages of beers, but that is not a high priority crime.

The crisis in Syria has resulted in high flow of refugees trying to get into Scandinavia.

Malmö. On Tuesday morning the customs stopped a new bus with 23 asylum seeking Syrians. Three people are now arrested in suspicion of human trafficking.

It was around eleven o'clock on Tuesday as the customs at the toll station at Lernacken (Malmö) controlled an Italian registered bus that came over the Öresund Bridge.

In the bus, there were 23 people who said they came from the war in Syria.
- We have interrogated some of them and then the Immigration Service has taken care of them, says Kristina Hallander Spångberg, head of the border police.

Three people, 63, 48 and 32, were arrested and detained. They are Italian citizens.

Police have confiscated the trio's mobile phones and bus tachograph.

At 0:20 pm Wednesday night , another suspected trafficker was arrested. The man arrived in a German-registered car with five people, which is also reported to come from Syria.

The 34-year-old man is arrested for smuggling.

In late August, a bus with 45 Syrian refugees was stopped. Later the same day a minibus with six Syrians arrived. Six people were detained in these investigations.

- Well we have a dozen investigations into human smuggling right now, says Kristina Hallander Spångberg.

Since Sweden is one of the few countries in Europe that actually allows all Syrians residence, there is no evidence that human trafficking will cease.

- My view is rather that the number of cases will increase, explains Kristina Hallander Spångberg.

Skånskan have previously reported that the refugees will have to pay from 1,000 euros and up to the traffickers.

Many people take credit loans in the sense that they mortgage the contributions they will make in Sweden. 20 percent of premiums for three years has been mentioned in similar investigations.

- We have information that there are people in Skåne organizing human trafficking, but we have no ability to work proactively towards them.

Police call for a tightening of the law there right serious organized smuggling must have a minimum penalty of two years imprisonment. Which enables the use of coercive measures.

That is absolutley bollocks and another racist point you are trying to make. They are mostly after the VAT on booze bought in Denmark or Germany, and the Swedes are notorious smugglers.

"you are way over the limit sir. You either have to pay the VAT on this or we will cease your vehicle with all the contents"

Human traffiking and illegal immigration are pan-European issues, all EU countries should cooperate to fight them, not just leaving the gateway countries (Italy, Spain, Greece) dealing with the issue.

In real life, electronic toll collection was first introduced in Bergen, Norway in 1986, and well into the 21th century many countries still struggle to implement it.

About time we went back to Balkan borders! This is the petrol station in Gabela Polje. What makes this petrol station strange is that it's located entirely in Bosnia, but accessible only from Croatia. The road itself is (as far as I know) only in Croatia - but the border is at the very edge of the right side of the road. I think - the guy standing next to his car is standing just within Bosnian territory. Normal E95 unleaded petrol is about 9.20HRK there (at the time of the picture), so quite a lot cheaper than in Croatia. I *think* this is the only place on the EU border where you can buy excisable goods (ie, petrol, alcohol and cigarettes) freely and transport them into the EU without any control at all. Apparently the entire street is considered to be a border crossing (and so can be crossed by locals freely) - but as far as I know, it's not allowed for anyone not holding a local border pass to use the petrol station.
