Nice sign for the Swiss Confederation:

And this is a movable border marker between Switzerland and Germany. When they play football/soccer, they remove it. When the game ends, they put it back.

Very little. It's what caused problems in places like Valga/Valka after independence, as what had previously been a mere administrative line suddenly became an international border. From everything that I've read, the Soviet Union attempted to downplay the internal borders as much as possible - there were no economic or police controls. There may have signs on the "borders", but I've never seen any evidence of them. However, large areas were subject to police controls - for instance, the entire Kaliningrad region was treated as a closed city. But for instance, there were no controls between the Belarusian SSR and the Lithuanian SSR.

Spanish translliteration gives me Jorgosh, which sounds like Jorgos, which in turn is Khorgas, another border crossing! (Between Kazakhstan and China in this case)

It was literally like "Welcome to Nevada" signs in US.

1: It's funny once you know the context
2: I dunno, ask Autoputevi kao hobi. My guess is that he meant to post it in the Serbian highway thread.

So the Serbian and Chinese governments had a meeting on a motorway? That's positively dangerous.

CNGL was commenting two posts earlier on the fact that Serbia and China have border crossings with similar names, or names that Google could confuse or something....

I'm not sure posting "KEEP CALM" in big green, neon letters is consistent with actually, well, keeping calm.

We're at the end of the page and I'm the only one who actually posted some photos, the rest is rubbish as usually.
