Some pictures from around the Dutch-German border I made this weekend:

Border at 's-Heerenberg. This is from the German side, the Dutch side is on the other side of the bridge. The green sign however ("Grenskanaal"= Borderchannel) is already in Dutch language.

Some 200 metres more to the east: Another bordercrossing, re-entering the Netherlands. There is no EU-sign, only a welcome sign for the province of Gelderland:

A curious place is the border between Dinxperlo (NL) and Suderwick (DE). this town is devided by the border, which is not marked at all, except from 1 street:

Same devided village: Netherlands (Dinxperlo) on the left side (including the road), Germany (Suderwick) on the right side (including pavement and the Germany car parked on the right side of the road). this is a houce for elderly people, connected by a bridge that actually crosses the border. So the people can visit their neighbours in the other country without leaving their building.

the next 3 pictures are on the Dutch N313 from Aalten to Bocholt (DE).
Approaching the border:

Crossing the border:

Germnan speedsign:

And finally the same crossing, back to the Netherlands. A strange sign appears in Germany: Not only should it be in German ("Niederlande"), but it is also the first sign I see without any text in the middle of the circle.

Nice pics, it looks quite complicated.

And a grass-road border crossing.

Not sure actually. It's either the Slovenian-Hungarian border, or the Slovenian-Croatian one (in which case it's not really a border crossing, as you may not cross the border there). Depends on how accurate maps are.

Ah.. Walserberg and Kiefersfelden. I remember the passporcontrols over there and the long queues before you cold pass the border.

Those were the days

Yeah, Austria and Switzerland do not like trucks. But they kind of have to, all through traffic from Italy goes through those two countries.

I remember the Kufstein border in 2006, when it was one big Baustelle. Horrible. Looks much better now.

Is this sign offcially approved in your country or it's just a custom to post it?

I ask because in Poland it's not and therefore hard to see on borders.
