border crossing Terezino Polje - Barcs (HR-H)

trivia: it is the first officially established border crossing between independent Croatia and some other country

here we have an opposite situation from the one at (old) Goričan - Letenye border crossing - here is croatian side crappy and hungarian is nice

this is croatian side

then we have a bridge over river Drava with rare and weird speed limit

and hungarian side. notice increasing speed limit officies are situated overhead. but those customs booths are not situated nice because customs officer cannot reach car window from them, so he must go out of booth to take a passports, go back to check them in computer and turn back out again.

this white sign with red stripe says "(end of) border crossing Barcs" what an information!

and after roundabout - entrance sign with limits. there is one smaller after this large one with additional information (i forgot which)

Nice pics!

The picture on the left side of that sign is that the use of mobile phone while driving is forbidden. The right side is about the speed limits at railroad crossings, inside and outside settlements (30 and 40 afaik )

Yes, that was the oficial route, but we took the A61 to the Netherlands, which is shorter than via Frankfurt.

Is that so? What about the bordercrossings with Slovenia (e.g. Bregana)?

My first ever bordercrossing to the new Croatian state was in 1992 in Gorican, entering from Hungary. That must be close to this bordercrossing.

Didn't Croatian-Hungarian border crossings already exist? (Yugoslavia-Hungary) Only B&H was an "inner" republic.

i wrote independent Croatia

@Palance - it is not close. you have 80 km of air distance, or 135 km by road. there is actually one border crossing between Terezino Polje and Goričan - it is Gola/Berzence. i will take photo of it somewhen, i don't live too far from it.

Yeah, but other border crossings with Hungary weren't closed probably, so they were the first border crossings of independent Croatia. Or you meant the first new border crossing in independent Croatia?

The crossing at Barcs is old, it exists maybe since the 60's. AFAIK the borders were closed down when there was that chaos in Yugoslavia, and maybe the crossing at Barcs was the first one to be reopened. Opening a border crossing is possible after an agreement is made between 2 countries. With the independence of Croatia the agreement between Hungary and Yugoslavia lost its effect, and it is possible that the new agreement with Croatia was followed by the opening of the Barcs crossing first. I don't think that much time passed till the crossing at Letenye/Gorican was opened too.

that's what i was trying to say. so Croatia had to make agreements with surrounding countries about official border crossings. and Terezino Polje / Barcs was the first one about which an agreement was made. i'm also sure there hasn't much time passed till Goričan / Letenye agreement.

^ I wouldn't say huge, but it's the busiest border crossing in Latvia, this border crosses more than 6000 vehicles daily.

I don't think so. People don't really know what to do with these buildings and this area to earn as much money as posible..

Interesting, on the main Portugal-Spain border, they didnt do anything with the border posts, they are just standing there in the middle of the road doing nothing, without a bypass, you have to slow down alot.
