French police has the authority to operate in the Swiss sector.

The British authorities. Were they called "police" or "border guard" or whatever, I'm afraid I don't remember. But I'm sure it wasn't the ferry company.

When the ferry arrived in Norway, there was the Norwegian police checking passports again.

Nothing particular. One just never actually enters the tolled road.

In Norway I understand the control, as you were entering the Schengen area.

However, British exit checks are something new for me.

It just came to me: it was 2007 and a few weeks after a terrorist attack in Glasgow. Maybe that was a special arrangement.

Exit checks are conducted by British since summer 2016 in both, Folkestone (eurotunnel) and Dover (ferries).

Of course. The airport itself is located on French soil

These checks are stupid. If you want to avoid them you just have to drive on secondary roads where there's no police at all.

For example, in the past year almost always when I have entered Austria from Hungary I drove on the secondary road where either was no control at all, or they just wave you through without any questions and without any STAU.

Today 10 new border crossing points between Romania and Hungary were opened. All of them are located on secondary roads and connect villages across the border where the detour to an old crossing would have been too long. These are only temporary crossings, as they will be open only during daytime and only on Saturdays (some of them) or Sundays (the others).

News article in Romanian only.

When does Romania plan to enter Schengen? Was the process slowed down by the migration crisis?

I read in Croatian news (cannot find it now), that Slovenes fenced some parts of the border recently and installed some heavy weight gates.

Edit: Found it

Are these crossings for locals only?

To everybody or only to local border traffic?

It is not mentioned in the article, but I am sure that all EU citizens can cross there. Not sure about non-EU though...

Was planned for 2012. Now nobody is talking about this anymore, although EU officially recognized that both Romania and Bulgaria have qualified under all criterias to join at any time. One reason for not getting in might be the buffer-area it provides against immigrants comming from the east, which some EU states don't want to disappear.

This is a Croatian road through Slovenia, so apparently you can't drive there any more (or you have to show documents to get from Croatia to Croatia). Say thanks to Angela Merkel!

Time to build a bypass there for this 300 meters. Should be no big deal... They had 25 years now to correct the road there.
