A6/D5 Waidhaus/Rozvadov

Some interesting pics of "mixed" signage on D/CZ border! Except the last pic, everything taken on german territory. Notice the czech red number 5 besides german 6 ) Quite interesting...

The roof is still hanging over the motorway, though ...

Really funny, especially the last (blue) sign in Germany.

German-czech symbol of parking and restaurant is better than Czech one and the sign has smooth edges

I would love to see countries adopting the E road system. Makes it so much easier when the road numbers stay the same!

You mean 2 roadnumbers from different countries next to each other? In the Netherlands this can be found at more borders:

Yes, I've already seen it on some of Chris's pics. But still, this CZ/D version is a bit excessive, with all those symbols in a row, i.e. E50 and CZ...

That's not true at all. It's completely at the discretion of the border guard. I was traveling by car from Minnesota into Manitoba. The Canadian border guards made my mum, sister, and I get out of the car and went through absolutely everything we had while they took my mum into the customs station for 15 minutes. I've entered the US at a small town border crossing 5 times in 2 weeks with no hassles at all, and then a few days later, the same border guard questioned us for 5 minutes. It's quite random.

The ease at which one can enter Canada or the USA varies a great deal. The biggest difference that I've observed is that the US has national security concerns due to 9-11 while Canada has national security concerns due to guns and criminals entering the country.

This combination of E-number and A-number works on a two-lane road with only one A-number and one E-number. If you end up in a duplex situation, which is particularly common in the E-network, you don't have enough space anymore for both. And on roads of three lanes or more, you end up with 6+ number shields, half of them being green. Which adversely affects the clarity of the sign (see for instance this Dutch example of how not to do it). What also does not help is that the bulk of the drivers in Germany only focuses on the A-numbers, i.e. the blue shields. But the layout of the sign means that your eyes will get distracted to the green shields rather than the blue shields.

In other words: this solution is nice for a border crossing, but please do take care before implementing this type of signs elsewhere in Germany. Which of course also applies to the rather exceptional use of allcaps on that 500m-sign.

And on those two-laned, you may still use second line It's kinda common here in CZ and it doesn't look so bad...

Well, I should have added that my observations were based on personal experience. I have crossed the border 4 times, and all 4 times Canadians seemed laid back and quite friendly. The longest questioning from a Canadian border guard probably lasted a little more than two minutes. Last time in December, a Canadian lady did not even check my wife's and my parents' documents before she let us in. Plus, you can pass a joke or two with Canadians American border guards, on the other hand, were always very serious, dry and unfriendly. Maybe, 4 times is not enough to make a generalisation, but that was my case. I like Canada and I will make more trips, so my statistics might change. Hopefully, Canadians will stay as friendly and Americans become less serious

Last summer, when I crossed into Canada, the Canadians were friendly, asked a couple of questions, and off we went. When we went back, however, the Americans wanted to see our luggage, and they were very unfriendly and serious. Still, this is only my experience

The new one is much smaller than this one, I was surprised when I saw it. It's probably because of the future.
