Sth's for sure: letter "Đ" is also part of the Croatian, Serbian and Bosnian alphabet. But in these languages it's pronounced as "dzh" or as the second "g" in "gorgeous", whereas in Icelandic I think it's pronounced as "the", but I'm not sure.

Swedish or Danish looks a lot easier to understand to me then Icelandic.

You're right! Reykjavik University maintains an excellent site where you can actually learn Icelandic, I checked it out a few years ago so I know a bit about the language.

I first got acquainted with the Icelandic Đ when I got my first mobile 8 years ago. I still remember RAFHLAĐA means battery, but I've forgotten what SKILABOĐ means. (message maybe?)

Some Panoramio, Reykjavik:

There are quite a lot of 2x2 lane highways and grade-separated junctions.

Please add some arguments why the roads look bad, and why you think they are in a bad condition.

This just looks offensive, as usual.

ecause just lok at the pics you´ve posted, the roads don´t even have left and right orderlines but silly strokes, any twolamed road except a few verv very old ones in bulgaria have that, these are basic things a road should have, the roads there look really dangerous, they are indeet rural ut that doesn´t mean the road should look like rural also, the raods should look save.

Actually, the roads look pretty good to me. Bear in mind that Iceland is a country with a very small population, and it's an island, so they don't have a need for huge, super-complicated expressways.

Looks like a great country...always wanted to visit actually and I've heard that Icelandic women are hot!

The pavement also has to endure the bitter cold winters there. It would be too expensive to keep it all in perfect condition, I think.

Surprisingly, the winters aren't as cold as we would expect them to be. Snowfall is just as common as in New York City. That's because the Gulf Stream warms up the coast. The inland is another story, though.

The roads are very much OK by me, especially considering the country only has some 300.000 inhabitants. The white stripes by the edge of some roads are absent as Radi noted, but it seems even remote unpaved roads have these yellow reflecting sticks on the side.

313.000 of which 195.000 live in the Reykjavik urban area. Other population centers are smaller as 17.000 inhabitants.

Relative to its size, population and climate, Iceland has very good roads.

Icelandic is pretty different from the other North Germanic languages. It's basically Old Norse continued in isolation, while the other languages have had a lot of influence from other continental languages.

ð (capital Ð) is pronounced th as in "the", þ is pronounced like th in "thanks".
