I hate el lulu. Why wouldn't they make something nicer? And when are they planning to fix the neighbourhoods of Al-Khor. It could be a good area, but they are neglecting it.

EMKE Group to build mega mall in Al Khor
Published: Saturday, 18 March, 2006, 09:33 AM Doha Time Staff Reporter Al Khor will host perhaps the country’s largest shopping mall in the early half of next year as EMKE Group, which runs the retail majors Lulu Hypermarket and Lulu Center, will set up a 370,000sq ft shopping place in the fast-growing municipal town. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed in Abu Dhabi on Thursday between Sheikh Abdullah Ahmed Jassim al-Thani and M A Yusuf Ali, managing director of the EMKE Group. Speaking on the proposed project after the ceremony, Yusuf Ali said: “This is indeed a proud moment for EMKE Group and we are looking forward to bringing the finest shopping and entertainment facility for the residents of Al Khor.” He said his group was laying special emphasis on interior designs and layout to give the proposed mall a very distinctively-theme look in a strategically important area as Al Khor . The mall, once completed, will have some of the best shopping and recreation features shoppers in Qatar could look forward to, said EMKE Group in a statement issued yesterday. Apart from a mega hypermarket of international standards, the place will also have multiplexes, amusement areas, food courts, theme restaurants and cafes and more than a hundred internationally branded outlets, it said. The EMKE Group, which runs 48 hypermarkets in various locations in the GCC, has ambitious plans to become a major player in the shopping mall sector. The group is already in the finishing stages of three mega shopping malls in Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Saudi Arabia in this financial year and seven more are in the planning stage, the release stated. Speaking on the proposed mall in Al Khor, Mohamed Althaf, Regional Director (Qatar) of the EMKE Group, said the decision to open a mall of international standards was taken in view of the massive developments taking place in and around Al Khor these days. ============ they mention it could be the largest shopping mall in qatar; so it has to be big!! |

Emke Group to build mega mall at Khor
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() EMKE Group, the Middle East’s biggest retailer chain, in association with the late Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim al-Thani’s family, is building a QR500mn shopping mall at Al Khor. The mall, which could perhaps be the largest hypermarket of its kind in Qatar outside Doha, is to come up in about 18 months. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Jassim al-Thani and former minister of economy and trade Sheikh Mohamed bin Ahmed Jassim al-Thani yesterday jointly laid the foundation stone of the hypermarket, to be spread out over approximately 600,000 square feet, of which about 390,000 square feet would be used for commercial purpose. Announcing this yesterday at the foundation-laying ceremony, attended by several prominent members of the Qatari business and trade community, Emke Group managing director Yusuffali MA said the new shopping mall would have a parking space for over 800 cars. Describing Al Khor as the fastest developing town in Qatar, Yusuffali expressed the hope that the hypermarket, named The Mall of Al Khor, would meet the ever growing shopping needs of the people of Al Khor and its suburbs. This would be the fourth venture of Emke Group in Qatar after LuLu Center, LuLu Hypermarket and the outlet under construction in Gharaffa. The third would be ready for commissioning either in March or April next year, he said. The Emke Group managing director said the state-of-the-art Al Khor complex would feature 90 to 100 retail outlets besides multiplexes, more than 15 food courts and amusement area for children. Recalling HH The Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani’s speech in New Delhi earlier this year, Yusuffali said his group would strive to realise the Emir’s vision of turning Qatar into a hub for international businesses of the region. While specially thanking HH the Emir and HH the Heir Apparent, the Emke Group managing director said the business environment the leadership had created would help Qatar attract many more foreign investments in the coming years. Yusuffali said Emke Group would put approximately QR500mn into two other ventures in Qatar, the work for which was already on. The group operates 64 outlets across the Middle East and is planning to add at least 15 more, latest by 2010, said Yusuffali. Later, replying to questions, Yusuffali said that besides retailing, which he said is his group’s core business activity, Emke Group is manufacturing consumer durables and has units in India, Indonesia and UAE. He said that the group was the third largest exporter of meat products, fresh vegetables and spices. In his address, Sheikh Abdulla said: “The new project comes in line with the directives of HH the Emir to extend more modern facilities and expand new societies outside Doha.” Emke Group CEO Saife T Roopawala, regional director (Qatar) Mohamed Althaf and Yang Yu, CRC Group of China, the contractors of The Mall of Al Khor, were among those present at the ceremony. Cool I love it when they focus outside doha its like Abu dhabi vs sharjah and Dubai while Doha vs Wakrah and Al Khor ![]() Quote:
