Thoughts and Comments?

I thought that I would create a thread for feedback about this new forum...

Also folks, please do not hesitate to make your own contribution to these threads. Feel free to post pics within the threads that feature the thread's subject building, especially rarely seen pics, like of the interior or base.

At the end of all of this, it seems that the averaged scores of each building will be used to rank them. Hence, we will all have a general idea of what SKYSCRAPERCITY forumers like etc.
To give a fair poll..I suggest everyone vote on EVERY building; not just those they fancy so that the results wont be skewed.

That's a good idea, RafflesCity. "Popular" buildings have dozens of votes while others have just a few. I just voted on the #21 AT&T HQ and was surprised I was only the 7 person who voted. #10 BoC has like 74 votes.

You have to keep in mind guys, for some buildings we already had existing statistics from thier threads at WSF. Other buildings, like the AT&T building were just posted, so they don't have many votes yet. In fact, the AT&T building was just posted this afternoon.

I like it. Are we gonna extend it further after a while to like the next 200 tallest?

Did you read the announcement in this forum? I hope to eventually extend it to include the Top 250, maybe even the Top 500. I think that 250 would be good, since we have the open forum for the rest...

I have some thoughts and comments.

There are a few things that everyone should keep in mind on this forum. Some have already been mentionned, but I'll say it again anyway.

On many of the threads there are already votes included in them. These are all the votes that I took down from the old Rate Our Talls threads back at WSF. This way all those threads weren't just a waste of time because everyone's rating still contributes to the average. There are only 37 threads that I have ratings saved for, so most of the buildings will be starting from scratch. There are already a few that haven't been seen before, because of the discrepancy between roof height and structural height (Burj Al Arab and AT&T Corporate Centre for example). Also, don't be concerned about rating the buildings if you have already given your rating before, it all averages out in the end and probably makes hardly any difference.

Like Raffles says, try and vote for every building if you can. On the old forum, one thing I noticed was the huge difference in the amount of ratings between buildings. It ranged from as low as 25 for some to almost 50 for others. So do try and keep things even. You don't have to rate them all at once, you can easily start with #1 and work your way to the latest one at whatever pace you feel like. I know they aren't in order on the forum, but you can just use your browser's search in page function (press CTRL-F) and type in "#15" or whatever number you're looking for.

Next, when you're rating the building, why not take 30 seconds and reply at the same time? Just say what you rated it and give a short explanation why you gave it that rating. Just say what features you like about the building and what features you don't like. It makes it a lot more interesting to see specifically what everyone thinks about the building you're looking at. Plus you can also see at the same time what some of your favourite forumers think about each building compared to you.

The threads will continue to be made until we get to 100, then maybe a little break, and after that the list will definitely be expanded. I would love to just snap my fingers and have the top 500 right here, but it's very time consuming to make these threads. I have to find pictures, which can sometimes be very difficult depending on the building, and I always try to find a variety of pictures (day, night, different angles, etc.) along with the best quality shots. If for any reason you think my pictures aren't satisfactory, or you just have some interesting pictures of a building, post them! Everyone always wants to see more pictures!

That's all I have to say. Now get out there and rate our talls!

and no, I didn't read it. As a matter of fact I didn't even see it. It just appeared there when I got home today..

Will it be helpful if I created some threads on the top100 in the open forum and then u guys can shift them over? Or is it redundant? (Buildings that have not been posted on the old forum that is)
I was thinking that the more people who work seriously on this..the faster this project can be finished.

That's a great idea Raffles. There are some buildings that we will have a hard time finding pics for, so every bit helps. Some of the buildings came from threads moved from the open forum anyways.

I'm sure you've seen the quality of the ROT 100 threads thus far, and understand what I'm looking for, so have at it my friend!

btw, you can even rank them if you like (in the thread title)... The quickest place to find the Top 100 by structural tip is on Skyscrapers.com... You don't have to do them in any set order either.

Skyscrapers.com doesn't allow external linking anyway.

Well they do allow external linking, they just make it difficult to find the image source. Also, I've noticed that in the past few days a lot of their images have been reduced in size and the larger versions no longer exist. It's a bit of a shame because they had a lot of great pictures.

You can only access the full scale images if you are a paying member of the site. Remember, they are in it to make money now (cover costs, whatever they call it).

I would prefer it if we relied on them as little as possible, though in some cases, it might behoove us to contact the editors responsible for the pics, and seek thier permissions to use the images. I'm pretty sure when they see what we are using them for, they won't mind.

And btw, GREAT threads so far Raffles! That's so great of you to help out!

No problem Jason! I am THOROUGHLY enjoying myself (Some pics are HARD to find...I feel as if I am cheating when I resort to skyscraperpictures.....I hope someone can help contribute China pictures!)

Some of my thoughts:

a) Pls dont forget to transfer these buildings over from the open forum:

MetLife
Osaka WTC
John Hancock Boston
BNI Ctr/Wisma 46
USX Tower

b) This forum has now reached 2 pages...we should remind voters about this

c) When the time is ripe..we can do forums for 100-200, and proposed/contruction buildings...

I've been thinking about that. The way it will be soon is that we'll have all 100 threads in this section. It's kind of creating a mess though. I don't think many people bother to look on the second page, and when we have 200 threads there, it will be very disorganized. Maybe we could have World's top 50, 51-100, 101-150, etc. Just a thought, because it's going to be very messy in here!

Raffles, skyscraperpicture is a great site, but I try not to use it too heavily. I like to find pictures from as many places as I can (it's easiest when I have nice pictures saved on my computer) but like you say, for some buildings it's very difficult to find nice ones!

My problem is, I have a hard time remembering where I already gave my 5 cents' worth.

It's a great poll, though, really gets you around and looking at things! THANKS!!!!
