Looks like work may have started on the site of the new hockey centre at Glasgow Green.

It's a tidy wee stand that, and I'm sure the two new pitches will be a good addition to the park...but, the halfway line is the best viewing point for fans, why is there a gap and no seats there?

From GCC Planning minutes.

In addition to the 514 permanent seats, 5000 temporary seating will be provided to the
north, east and south of the principal pitch during the Commonwealth Games. In post Games mode the temporary seating will be removed.

There is something very appealing about the hockey venue.

Not too big that it will be a white elephant, but Not too small that it is insignificant, and plenty of space for temporary accommodation as and when it is required. This should be yet another success story for the Glasgow legacy.

Dell signed as seventh Glasgow 2014 sponsor

www.glasgow2014

Dell has become the latest sponsor for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, which will see Dell supply world class technology to ensure that Glasgow delivers an outstanding event. Dell will deliver the IT hardware required for the Games –including over 1,500 desktops and 200 laptops, approximately 60 servers and storage solutions across 40 competition and non-competition venues. From its Scottish headquarters in Dennistoun, a stone’s throw from where much of the sporting action will take place, Dell will provide the winning combination of its experience of large-scale global projects with its east end heart.

The announcement was made in Glasgow at Scotstoun Leisure Centre, where four children from schools in Glasgow met a Commonwealth silver medallist, swimmer Jak Scott.

Dell already has a great track record in delivering world class technology for a global sporting event. Dell was the Official Hardware Provider for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games - supplying desktops, notebooks, workstations, servers and storage technology.

Not only is the scale of the Games significant, the requirements are unique and very dissimilar to usual business demands, requiring partners – like Dell – to work with Glasgow 2014 to deliver solutions to meet these challenges. The technology to be supplied by Dell will support a wide variety of critical applications and functions, necessary to ensure the successful staging of the Games.

Glasgow 2014's Chief Executive David Grevemberg said:

"For more than 26 years, Dell, as a household name, has empowered countries, customers and communities around the world to use technology to realise their dreams. Like the values of Glasgow 2014, Dell epitomises integrity, responsibility and empowerment.

“Dell’s global mindset and Scottish heart make them a great fit for Glasgow 2014 and we are delighted to have a company with their expertise, based in Glasgow’s east end, to perform such an important role for us through the supply of our IT equipment.”

Aongus Hegarty, President, Dell EMEA said:

“Dell’s belief that technology can change the world, enabling people everywhere to grow and thrive, clearly has a strong synergy with the purpose of Glasgow 2014 – both in the delivery of world-class competitive sport it will showcase and the lasting economic and social legacy it will leave.”

Mark White, EMEA Client Services Director & Dell Scotland Site Lead said:

“Since Dell’s Scottish operation opened in 2005, we’ve delivered first-class services to our customers; developed, retained and invested in our people; and made a real difference in our local community. From only a handful of people when our doors first opened, we’ve grown to a current team of 650.

“We are so proud to be joining Glasgow 2014 to provide essential IT equipment to ensure that there is the best technology behind the success of a world-class Games.”

Its all shaping up nicely and Glasgow has the advantage of learning from London re-transportation,security contracts etc.

In fact, once the commonwealth games is finished,i think they should keep the name "Athletes village"for this new housing scheme, rather than call it Dalmarnock again!(use this name for the other side of Springfield road, down to the train station).

I imagine it'll be named Athlete's Village or more likely Commonwealth Village by the time its marketed for residential use. Can't really get rid of the Dalmarnock part however! It's very much so in Dalmarnock!!!

As the structures are only temporary, they will be dismantled immediately after the Olympics and reassembled in Glasgow for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome isn't looking too shabby on the inside:-

The Indoor Arena isn't either:-

And from above

Aaaargh!

Neither is the indoor arena!

Either

1) Each of two.
2) One or the other of two.

Neither

1) not one of two.
2) not either.

Sorry but it's one of those things that drives me nuts. Along with those who don't know the difference between accept and except, loose and lose, there, their and they're and so on and so forth.
