Ostankino tower-second tallest free standing structure on earth

Ostankino Tower
Ostankino Tower (Russian: Останкинская телебашня) is a free-standing television and radio tower in Moscow, Russia. Standing 540 metres (1772 feet) in height and located at 55°49′11″N, 37°36′42″E, Ostankino was designed by Nikolai Nikitin. It is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.

The tower's construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1967. It held the record for the tallest free-standing structure in the world for one decade, until the CN Tower was built in Toronto, Canada in 1976.

This tower is second place on earth by height ,but the members of Skyscrapercity forgot about that! and all the moderators forgot this tower .It's not fair!

also CULWULA the moderator doing in every month World's Tallest Construction Diagram ,he doesn't comparing the towers that u/c to Ostankino tower

Maybe this isn't his fault ,because also skyscraperpage web site doesn't remind about this tower (Ostankino tower needs to be in the second in ''world 33 tallest skyscrapers" diagram)

I hope that Skyscrapercity members and moderators will change it

Great tower, but it was finished long time ago, and this section is for new towers.

This section of the forum is for projects under development, not for completed buildings. Culwulla includes three completed buildings in his diagram for comparison: the tallest structure, the tallest building by pinnacle, and the tallest by official height. Everything else is only stuff under construction.

I really like this tower. Very impressive and huge

Can you post pix from the view of the city from this tower?

P.S. I have known about this tower for years so don't feel that all people are ignoring it or don't know that it even exists.

I know that it doesn't belong. I was referring to the tower. My bad, I should have been more clear.

While technically there is no reason to be starting this thread within this section, I can understand why you did. Most people don't know about this wonderful tower - but just so you feel better, most people in the US don't even know about the CN Tower, which is so close, and of course was the tallest for a very long time.

Anyway, this tower is NOT the second tallest, rather it is the third tallest free standing structure in the world. Burj Dubai passed both this tower and the CN tower some time ago.

Interestingly, the Freedom Tower's massive antenna is going to be four feet taller than this tower (but quite a bit shy of the CN tower. Don't worry, the Russia Tower edges out the Chicago Spire by about the same amount.

It's not nice but it is a reminder of the Soviet era. Anyway, it will probably be demolished in the future. It's been on fire twice, right?
