I disagree about Gare de Lyon. Gare du Nord is not great but IMO still better than La Defense.

BTW I am talking about the stations in their entirety, not just the platforms. I'm including the main passenger halls, waiting rooms, other connected spaces, commerces etc., the state of the fare barriers... The platforms at La Defense are nothing out of the ordinary indeed. Although there was the first time I found elevators that are not allowed for people with luggage or baby carriages, only for disabled people (and you need to get someone from staff to come and open the elevator for you).

Saint-Lazare.
Since December the express service between Gare Saint-Lazare and La Défense have been suppressed on L.
Trains either stop at Pont Cardinet, Clichy Levallois and Asnieres sur Seine or Becon-les-Bruyère and Courbevoie.

Pont Cardinet and Clichy Levallois are no longer only served by trains of group III (Saint-Lazare - Nanterre Université - Cergy) as it was before, now they are also served by trains of group II (Saint Lazare - Versailles/St-Nom).

Enlargement of Rue d'Aubervilliers under the track of Gare de l'Est and the RER E.

This enlargement is included with the construction of the nearby and newly opened Rosa Parks station
This will help decongest the access to Porte d'Aubervilliers.

Yesterday, a car fell on the tracks of the RER B at Gentilly
Fortunately the driver and the passengers managed to get out of the car just before the train arrived.

French government increases funding for Paris RER Line E extension
Monday, February 08, 2016

FRENCH prime minister Mr Manuel Valls confirmed on February 6 that the government will contribute a further €500m towards the €3.3bn western extension of Paris RER Line E from St Lazare to Mantes-la-Jolie

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the new Rosa Parks station, Valls said the "exceptional additional contribution" means construction can begin "now," although the opening date will not be brought forward

Will it not have 4 platforms like other subterranean RER stations?

Also, how on earth did that car end up on a train track??!

The car hit and destroyed the part of barrier and fell on the tracks then it was crashed and pushed by the train to the station.

Only two platforms at Porte Maillot and La Défense.

La Défense will have a wide island platform with two tracks.

Did they decide that 4 platforms were not worth the expense?

But maybe if the dwell times at the 4 platform RER E stations are short cause of the platforms, and long at the new ones, there will be a bottleneck...

Are RATP/SNCF going to separate the RER B and D between Chatelet and Gare Du Nord anytime soon? Seems overdue and would improve reliability a lot for those lines.

The station on RER E right after La Défense going westbound, which will be called Nanterre-La Folie, will have more platforms, as many trains coming from the east (Chelles-Gournay or Tournan) will terminate there.

Keep in mind that the section between Haussmann-St Lazare and La Défense on RER E will be shorter than the section between Châtelet-Les Halles and La Défense on RER A. Haussmann-St Lazare station on RER E is very close to Auber station on RER A.

So maybe there's not that big a need for more platforms.

That would be a very good thing for both RER B and RER D, but it's extremely complicated, would involve long cuts between Châtelet-Les Halles and Gare du Nord, and needless to say, it would be tremendously expensive.

Siemens CBTC for Paris RER Line E
10 Feb 2016

FRANCE: On February 10 SNCF announced that it had awarded Siemens France a €186m contract to supply NExTEO communications-based train control for the central section of RER Line E in Paris. According to SNCF, this is the first major contract to be placed under the €3⋅7bn project to extend Line E westwards to Mantes-la-Jolie, requiring a new 8 km tunnel between Haussmann-Saint-Lazare and Nanterre-La Folie.

To be deployed on the central section of Line E between Rosa Parks and Nanterre-La Folie, NExTEO would enable the peak service frequency to be increased from 16 to 22 trains/h, cutting headways from 180 to 108 sec and enabling trains to operate at up to 120 km/h. When the extension programme is fully completed in 2022, Line E will have a peak frequency of 28 trains/h, carrying 620 000 pass/h compared to 370 000 at present

This is a question for Minato_ku.

In the event that RER B and RER D would become separate, hence liberating a huge number of paths on both lines, could it be envisageable for RER D to take on some Transilien lines that now terminate at Gare du Nord? Say, the Luzarches branch, for instance?

It could be envisageable but I don't think it's a good idea.
Services from the southeast need to be compatible with Northern services.
The RER D is already quite complicated, it could become even messier.
It is better to have simpler RER line than lines with too much branches like the RER C.

I would prefer to increase significantly the frequencies on the northern side.
Don't forget that a new branch is underway in the north "Barreau de gonesse".
