I did many photo of the works in the northern RER B yesterday but unfortunately, I had forgotten to put a SD card in my camera.
So the photos that I have taken have not been saved.

So north of Châtelet RER B has low platforms? How do they do it then?

The north of the RER B was opened in 1862 (Paris Nord - Soissons lines) and the section from Aulnay-sous-Bois to CDG airport in 1976 (Roissy rail)
At this time, the RER B didn't exist.
The SNCF until recently was more toward the construction of low platform.
Before 2010 only Gare du Nord, la Plaine Stade de France and CDG 2 had high platforms.
Now, most of the stations in the northern part of the line have high platforms (only la Courneuve and Le Bourget were missing few months ago).

The southern part (line de Sceaux) has high platforms because the line was exploited by the Paris metro company (CMP back then) since 1937 and has been greately modernised at this time to be like a metro line.

Ok, thanks, but I mean, how do they make the RER B trains cope with high and low platform stations at once?
Isn´t it difficult for elderly people at low platform stations?

Trains have a retractable step.

Gare de l'Est
The tunnel in Central Paris is closed for work, trains depart from Gare de l'Est

This week is the last busy week of the year and there are a lot of work on the RER network. Especially in Central Paris.
The northern RER B and RER D terminate on the surface patforms of Gare du Nord for the heightening work of the platforms on the undergound station. (platforms on Gare du Nord RER station were already high but this heightening will really make the station step free).
The RER C (as usual) is closed in central Paris between Gare d'Austerlitz and Invalides for the Castor work (every year between mid July and mid August since 1995 to renovate the tunnel).
Only the RER A run properly (with lower frequencies as usual in August).

That's a lot of summers to close it. When will they be done, and what - apart from making sure the tunnel doesn't collapse - will be the improvements at the end of it all?

I heard that in the future, trains could run 20km/h faster in the tunnel.
60km/h insteasd of 40km/h wich give at the RER C the famous escargot (snail) surname.
In reality the line is fast in suburbs but run at very slow speed in the central tunnel because of the aging infrastructure.

And this will continue every summer until 2017.

Increasing from 40 to 60 km/h sounds great. 22 years is kinda long tho, but I guess upgrading a tunnel does takes crazy time.

La Défense
The Transilien U is made of a single line between La Defense and La Verrière (Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines) by Versailles, it is the only network that doesn't have any stop in Central Paris.

It is the double decker trains on the left, the train on the right is the line Saint Lazare - Versailles/Saint Nom of the Transilien L.

Both trains are departing but on oposite way.

Gare du Nord

Last week due to work on underground platforms, the northern RER B and northern RER D departed from the surface suburban platform of Gare du Nord.
This is how I could take this picture with a Z2N, two MI79 and a Z50000

Nice pictures, I don't go often in this part of the RER A.

For the same trip in Montparnasse network you can be lucky or unlucky

The unlucky one will have a Z 5300 built between 1965 and 1975 (more like 1965 because all the newest have been withdraw).
What is better than being in the worse and hottest rolling stock during a hat wave.
A ride on the MP 59 summer seems pleasant compared to this.

The avert is the only proof that we are in the 21st century

Manual doors where you need to put a lot of strengh to open it.

The more lucky will have a VB2N.
VB2N are double decker reversible car built between 1974 and 1984
While old, this rolling has been refurbished in 2000's and have the air conditioned.
It is the train in the first pics in the last post of NordikNerd.

So far, I have been an an extremely unlucky person.

I have been in Paris twice in 2009 & 2011. Both times I stayed at the camping in Maissons La Fitte, great place along the Seine only 1km from the RER station.

In 2009 Me and my familiy visited Disney, so staying in Maissons La Fitte was convienient, straight RER connection to Disneyland. Actually I have travelled from my hometown to Disneyland with rail only. Linköping-Copenhagen-Cologne-Paris

It´s Maisons-Lafitte, not Maissons La Fitte.
