This always happen in rush hour.
Are there any plans to deal with this situation?

The problem is that the central section of the RER C runs underground but just beside the river Seine, so it has issues of leaks and humidity. And it´s also very old.
This makes the trains run very slow (40 or so). So it takes forever to get from Gare d´Austerlitz to Porte Maillot when it should take just a few minutes in normal conditions.

They´ve been cutting the line in summer for many years, as they do the works to upgrade it, but very very slowly.

The problem is that you can´t cut such busy lines like the Paris RER (or in the future the London Crossrail) since that would be extremely disruptive, and it has to be done (small) bit by (small) bit. Minato ku (), like always, knows about the date these upgrade will be finished.

On the other hand, they could use some security on both the RER and Metro. I've seen NO police or anything like that except once in a Metro station (at Jaures), and I have to say that the Paris transport system felt by far the most unsafe I've used in Europe (maybe only rivaled by Brussels).
I did not see anything degenerate badly, but I saw two incidents with youths who were smashing bottles, shouting at other passengers and driving them away from various cars. Also, begging and singing instruments seemed far more commonplace than anywhere else I've ever been (many were from Romania at that). Jumping over turnstils was also commonplace.

Seriously France, the authorities should take action to make the Metro and RER feel safe, and also maybe to make the smell of pee and the litter go away if possible.
Weeelcooome to Paaaariiis...
Paris suburbs are the most dangerous in the EU.
Not to an American scale, that´s sure, but on a EU scale, they´re the most dangerous.

They simply cannot run more trains, it´s just not possible as you saw on that pic of two trains at the rush hour.

So RER E has to provide a capacity that is badly needed on the Central Paris-Neuilly-La Défense-Nanterre corridor.

Other suburbs in the EU must be extremely safe then.

Apart from RER E extension, there are projects to automatize the central section of RER A, as computers are believed to be more efficient in such crowded lines. However, drivers should remain in trains to open/close doors. There are other various projects, all of these are presented in the "Schéma directeur du RER A".

It is the new CBTC system project for Paris suburban network, it is called NExT (Nouveau système d'exploitation des trains).
Note that it is a common RATP and SNCF project, the first line with NExT will be the RER E.

New trains, more efficient with high frequencies, will be built for the opening of the RER E western extension.
So along with the MP89 for the metro we have a good question here, where will run the MI2N Eole in the future knowing that those trains are not compatible with the RER A.

Great! Another rolling stock with an uncertain future.

*MI2N (E)
*MP89 (both CC & CA)
*MF88
*MF67 (lines 3, 3b, 10, 12)

Plus whatever else is on the RER & Suburban lines that haven't been dished out...

Anything new regarding the MI 81s that supposedly aren't being scrapped yet?

The withdrawal of the MI84 has began with the arrival of the MI09, this stock will also replace the MS61.

Isn't RER E well short of its expected passenger levels at the moment?

Not at all, the line is carrying over 300,000 passengers per weekday.
It makes ithe line E, the third busiest RER line passengers per km after the RER A and B.
Obviously the big central stations of Magenta and Haussmann Saint Lazare are not at full capacity and still a bit oversized for the actual traffic but you shouldn't forget that the line E is not yet complete.
Only the easter half is built and before the extension to the west the line will not be at its full operational capacity.
When the western extension will open, the line E will become the third busiest RER line and the busiest SNCF line with over 700,000 daily passengers planned.

I guess I should have been more specific. The MI 84 that may supplement portions of Lines D and R. Anything new on that?

Nothing for the moment but I am rather sceptical about this.

I read once that MI2N from RER E could be shortened to replace VB2N from ligne J (maybe some other lines but I don't remember which). I think it was in the Schéma Directeur du Matériel Roulant but can't find it anymore.

I see. I don't think the switchover will happen. If the trains are all slated to be scrapped, then why would the STIF suddenly just say, "oh by the way, we want to do this" when the retirement is ongoing?

Secondly, the lines are under SNCF jurisdiction, which poses a major problem for the stock (by which they're not compatible with their systems, as it was mentioned earlier).

Argenteuil
RIB (Rame inox de banlieue or Stainless steel commuter car) with BB 17000 electric locomotives

Those trains will be replaced by Z50000.
The picture is not in the same suburban Transilien network but you can see an old RIB next to a Z50000.

Classic Chatelet - Les Halles ugliness!
Just by looking at the picture, I can remember the characteristic smell that goes along with it (the sweet/slightly nauseating smell of the station).

The renovation will undoubtedly make wonders for the station, and it is much needed, but no doubt that the good old Chatelet - Les Halles station will be missed!
