Normally, the renovation will be completed in 2016.

Definitely a good call. I would not have stepped inside without authorization either.

Cab ride: Nanterre to Cergy le Haut

This is the Cergy branch, the SNCF part of the RER A.

I'm always amazed by how smoothly French trains accelerate. Here in Britain we seem to slam on full power straight away and blast up to full line speed as quickly as possible. You guys just sort of roll out of the station and coast along!

The pictures at the top of this page for me really highlight how bad the blue/grey SNCF livery looks. Obviously that stock is knackered and needs replacing, but I really think a new Transilien and new TER livery would brighten things up a lot, just like the comparable Network SouthEast and Regional Railways liveries did after British Rail abandoned its blue/grey livery.

It is grey because this stock was made in stainless steel.
Infact the color of the former transilien livery is more blue/white.

Note that the "bleu nuit" livery is not the livery new and renovated trains are getting anymore. SNCF-owned trains are getting the "rouge carmillon" livery just like this one :

Gare de l'Est
Z50000 are now in service in this network

RIB of Gare de l'Est suburban network seem in better state that those of Gare du Nord or Saint-Lazare.

I love these old trains, based on regular use between Fontainebleau and Paris for a year. They can still do a good job for less important Transilien itineraries, out of rush hour. They run just as fast as the new trains, they only shake a lot but it's not a problem. They have a soulful vintage design and we called them affectionately "săniuţe" (meaning "little sleighs"). At the interior they're not depressing like all the other trains of old stock. The seating is soft and more comfortable than in all modern RER or Transilien trains (but less so when compared to regional trains).
Whenever I see one, I smile.

So from what I've read on Symbioz, some MI 81 are being prepped to go to the RER B, Massy after all?

Yes as replacement because of the refurbishment of the MI 79.

In the future MI 84 could be used for the Juvisy - Melun service of the RER D.
This service doesn't serve Central Paris, it is only between two southeastern suburbs, and it has old Z 5300 as rolling stock.
Some MI84 could replace these old trains.
