Some pictures of the RER for you!

The rather ugly entrance for many to Paris - the station at Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1.

Châtelet – Les Halles on the RER B platforms.

RER A at Nation

More to come.

Hi - can we keep it in English for the international section please? Or at least, bilingual (that's fine too). Just so that others can participate more easily. Thanks!

There was some talk on earlier pages of this thread about "ideal" RER lines. What constitutes the "ideal" RER line? What are the operating characteristics of each line? What segments are most useful for tourists? Most interesting for railfans? Best avoided (for security)?

I liked RER A the best, but really did not like RER B in the north. The northern RER B felt very sketchy each time I used it, but RER A was pleasant mostly (if crowded). Not sure if others agree.

It's very hard to give an answer...

IMO, the most interesting line for tourists is the RER C ; the line runs along the banks of the Seine (a world heritage site) and give access to the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, the castle of Versailles, the musée d'Orsay, the national museum of natural history, the arab world institute, the Louvre museum, the musée du quai Branly... and, of course, Orly Airport !

The line to avoid is the line D : regularity is low and security too.

For railfans, all lines (including Transilien) are interesting !

During the day, we will have no problem on any RER line, I would just avoid to be alone (or with very few passengers) in a car.

Maisons-Alfort - Alfortville
New lifts under in construction

Station building in Alfortville side (there is an other one in Maisons-Alfort side)

Basically why are they building another platform on Denfert station and what will be its purpose?

To serve as a terminal platform in case of big disruption in the central section of the line.
The passengers from the south would still have an access to a transfer point with the metro.

Just a few more pictures.

Gare d'Austerlitz at the RER platforms. It looked really nice down here.

Because the RER C was closed between Austerlitz and Javel, we had to travel on line 10 to Javel here.

RER C at Javel.

At Versailles Rive Gauche.

More to come later.

Some more photos of my little tour of Paris.

Versailles Chantiers - this is undergoing significant renovation. It's a nice station on the concourse.

Platform level at the Transilien N line towards La Defénse.

View of Station St Cloud - I return here later on my own while my wife and her family do some sight seeing.

Interior of the Transilien train.

Corridor at La Defénse linking up from the Transilien/Tram station to the Metro/RER station.

RER platforms at La Defénse.

RER A arrives at La Defénse.

RER A at Nation.

Final shot - the main station building for the Metro and RER at La Defénse.

More to come later.

Haha thanks, I had a feeling I was wrong on that one. The others are correct though as far as I know.

Another shot of La Defénse station.

Fantastic new renovation at Charles de Gaulle - Étoile.

RER B at Cité Universitaire.

RER B Rolling stock interior.

Now this is one of the nicest RER B stations of all - at Luxembourg.

That's all for now.
