Personally I think airport-city is just a name, could be at every airport. They should take the name of the plaza at the surface or create a new name for the airport-city. It will be more confusing as this is the 1.phase of the airport-city. They want to add a huge area ahich is far away from the railway-station. Early drafts considered an extended U7 serving those areas. But there is still an airport to be opened...

That video, or a similar one was posted here earlier. Good video nonetheless.

7minutes just for the ride from Schönelefd to the new airport? Seems very long!

Don´t know why they did not take this into acount.

I guess one word 'Flughafen' to be lernt when traveling to Germany shouldnt be too much, right. The loooooooooong name that you suggested: "Airport - Flughafen Berlin-Brandenburg International" isnt good.
"Flughafen Berlin-Brandenburg" should be enough with the pictogram next to it showing the plane. That would be shorter and understanable for everyone. Even for those who are too lazy to learn one word.

Or maybe even shorter name would quite right: "Flughafen BBI"

I never heard the term "airport city" before - and I've been to a few airports.

Anyhow, it's good Berlin's new airport is open at last, it's been a long time coming!

You're a few years too early with that line.

i've heard some small airline will start operating from BBI soon, mostly like before Christmass, this year.

Very little, unfortunately. One is still looking for a solution to fix the fume extraction system. But no finish date is yet in sight.

Shame about that Inititally there were two alternatives for the airport-S-Bahn: An extension from Blankenfelde S2-terminus and a tunnel under the northern runway from existing Schönefeld S-Bahnstation. I don´t know why, but the community of Schönefeld opted against the tunnel. This route is fairly long, so it wasn´t the necessary money for the tunnel (if one keeps in mind that the existing route also causes additional maintainance compared to a shorter tunnel). So I think a S-Bahnride to important places like Friedrichstraße and Alexanderplatz will take about 50 minutes from the new airport-terminal. The airport-express will deliver a much quicker service of 30 minutes-interval and 30 minutes travel-time. If the railway-tracks to Dresden will be build new as it is still planned, travel-time of airport-express will be 20 minutes with 15-min. headway.

Kind regards

As a terminal is where something terminates, possibly an airport terminal, a cargo terminal, a railway terminal or something else, that was a seriously confusing sign (obviously I would go to "Airport City"). Hopefully that sign is not a sign of things to come.

People must just accept that S9/45 are not the way to travel city <-> airport. They were actually not even today, with the +7' will be even less. The day we'll have RE/RB from airport to Ostkreuz, the fact will be more clear...

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

Meanwhile the long planned additional long-distance tracks for Dresdener Bahn are a little nearer to reality. Citizens of the Berlin disctrict called Lichtenrade talk to people from Deutsche Bahn about how and how long a new tunnel for the railway through Lichtenrade should be.

There have been discussions about the question if those additional tracks along S2 are just an addition or if they create a completely new rail-connection. The latter option would result in higher standards and costs regarding the enviromental impact. DBAG is against building a tunnel through Lichtenrade.

If this line opens, not only trains to Dresden and Prague would be faster, it would give the possibility to create an airport-service every 15 minutes with 20 minutes travel-time from Hauptbahnhof. Trains would stop at Potsdamer Platz and Südkreuz.

Kind regards

The new interchange station Franzoesische Str. will be pretty close to Friedrichstr. 400m or even less?

Yes, it is. That's why Friedrichstr. will be closed after U5 extension is complete in 2019

I seriously doubt the main interchange of the city will be closed

Französische Str. (the one south of Unter den Linden) will close, replaced by UdL itself.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see names and locations of stations. I knew that Franzosischestr. will be closed, but I was mistaken with Friedrichstr.
