Bombardier had some problems with the Talent. Those Berlin ones should be used as airport-express to BER. They came too late in operation but still before BER opens

Other Talents can be found at the Mitteldeutsche S-Bahn-net in Leipzig, there in cool good-looking silver. The trouble with Bombardier led to the decision that DBAG preferred CAF, Alstom and Stadler as suppliers for the huge 400 EMU contract during the next ten years or so. So Bombardier wants to be the winner for new Berlin S-Bahntrains. They will substitute 480 and 485 rolling-stock of Berlin S-Bahn.

The hamster cheeks derive from new regulations of EU 15227 (?) Crash-protection standard. What they´ve done on the Talent is much better than on those new and totally ugly Alstom trains, probably the ugliest EMUs of Europe at the moment.

Funny, I'm actually quite fond of the new look for the Coradia Continental and Coradia Lint trains. Their new faces give them quite a distinctive look.

I guess the old saying applies here too, it's pointless to argue about taste

Yes, as I see the Coradia design differs much, so I mainly refered to this Continental from DBAG (please scroll down to Coradia Continental bei Railtec Arsenal). Well still a matter of taste anyway.

I think the new Coradia Continental looks much better in the ENNO livery:

And yes, it does look happy.

Some more of my pictures.

Double decker buses ply the streets of Berlin. One of the few cities in the world to run large double deckers with three axels like this.

Alexanderplatz S-bahn platforms.

Alexanderplatz concourse.

U2 platforms at Alexanderplatz.

One of the small profile stocks (A3L 92 stock perhaps?)

More to come later.

I'm pleased to be able to give you a few more videos of mine of the amazing transport network in Berlin.

Firstly, Bombardier Flexity trams at Alexanderplatz. This section seems to get very busy indeed.

S-bahn departure on the opposite platform at Potsdamer Platz.

My train arriving at Potsdamer Platz on the S2 service to Buch.

Brandenburger Tor station with two S-bahn departures and a walk to the U-bahn.

I know they're not great quality, but I hope that you guys like them all the same.

Station announcing on U2

There is actually a funny thing going on. Well-known germans from TV and even Anastacia announce stations of Berlins U2 (most important line for tourists).

http://www.bz-berlin.de/berlin/u2-je...mi-stimmen-mit

This will last until March 2015, then finally Udo Lindenberg will give a concert in U2, as he sang the famous song "Sonderzug nach Pankow" about a train linking west to east.

Kind regards

Oops, just realised I stuffed up the link to one of my videos.

A walkthrough of Potsdamer Platz station from the regionalbahn/long distance section to the S-bahn platforms.

Few more of my pictures of Berlin's transport network.

Still more to come.

Final set of videos from Berlin now. Hope you guys have enjoyed them.

First up - the U5 at Strausberger Platz - H stock!

U6 at Hallesches Tor. This is probably one of the least pleasant stations I visited in Berlin unfortunately. The U1 was a bit... Hm...

Racing an ICE train on the Berlin S-bahn!

From Hauptbahnhof to Tiergarten - S-bahn racing a DB Regio train.

Wittenbergplatz Station from the U1 platform to exit.

And the reverse - into Wittenbergplatz.

And that's all folks. Hope you've enjoyed it.

I ride them most days into town on the RB14 Nauen-Schönefeld route.

However, sometimes we get treated to the older double-decker rolling stock (push/pulled by a Baureihe 143 loco) which still plays the regional music before station announcements...

Those U55 stations are really bland. I guess Berlin didn't have a lot of money to put into them.

Today the first 4-car prototype of Berlin's new underground series "IK" for the small profile network was presented at the Olympia-Stadion:

More efficient tram air-conditioning
23 Mar 2015

GERMANY: Berlin city transport operator BVG has awarded Liebherr-Transportation Systems a contract to equip one its Bombardier Flexity trams with an experimental occupancy-dependent fresh air control system.

Liebherr’s modelling has predicted that this could reduce the energy consumption of the tram’s air-conditioning system by up to 13%.

CO2 sensors are used to estimate the number of passengers on the tram, with the intake of fresh air automatically regulated to suit
