No - just kidding - They were kept for museum-purposes
The D-trains arrived at U55 this weekend. As this is Berlin, they will get a special paint-job, something political with an inauguration from the german government. There is still one F-unit on U55 for some reasons. It will be replaced by the next DL-unit in the nearer future.

Actually the IK-trains take shape, which should be in service on U5 this year. So at least we will get 44 new cars, though they are dedicated to small-profile and will be adapted to great-profile for some years. Next year IK-trains are planned to substitute the A3L71 trains based on aluminium. The steel-based A364/66 have to run probably until around 2023.

Series IK in service on the U5? A small-gauge vehicle on a wide-gauge line? Are you sure about that?

It´s not small gauge, it´s small profile. I thought this is not a new massage. 44 cars of IK are prepared to run on U5 and will get side-boards and some other things making them suitable for big-profile. First new cars for big-profile are expected at 2022, so that´s the reason why. BVG got Money for this order from Berlin-council, so the IK17 are delivered before the small-profile IK 18. After 2022 IK17 Trains will get back into small-profile-System.

The plan has some errors in Pankow, also time-schedule is, to say it kindly, optimistic. The construction of black lines maybe gets started until 2021, but in no case even the "Planfeststellung" (planning procedure with public interactions) already started.

It is still not allowed to think about any U-Bahn-extension, additional to those tram-plans. They even don´t notice, that an extension of U2 from Pankow to Pankow-Kirche could be necessary to make more tram-service in Pankow possible. Sorry, as already said this is only ideologiy, it will never be reality in practice.

What is so sad about this? In other growing european cities the question is how to solve traffic-problems, looking at each mode of transport and thinking about solutions. In Berlin, tram has to be extended, whether it´s necessary or not.

Kind regards

Random thought: Is it possible to connect U3 and U4 as a single line?

No, their tracks go out of Nollendorfplatz station pointing in the same direction.

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

Due to Photobucket f*cking up, most images won't be visibile in my old posts. If you need anything specific, please write me.

That map is beautiful! It is so rare to find a map of all of the individual tracks of an entire subway or rail network.

On another note, I hope the tram network will also be far extended, especially to the suburbs where it will not make sense to extend the subway.

Well, in this case you should explore the entire site. You find a lot more track maps there.

A better view from Charlottenstraße exit down to U5-level and existing U6-southbound platform still fenced of. Behind the walls U6 runs to Alt-Mariendorf
