With a $1.3 billion price tag. This tower will be of the highest quality. #class

The top has changed a bit:

____

From left to right: Latest design; last design (couple of months ago); original design.

Bigger rendering:

I love that the top is darker now.

Interesting. Not sure that asymmetrical bulge on the top is particularly flattering, at least from that angle.
Also, there definitely appears to be a denser web of cross-bracing, which I'm a fan of!

Why didn't they keep the same black bracing pattern from the old render? Even with the 200 foot drop, part of the reason I'm not as enamored with the new design is the change to lighter cladding and a pattern that doesn't match correctly imo

Edit nvm: I was comparing the 2nd design to the original. I'm so glad they altered it more. The latest design is stunning!!

The reason things like this take so long to get approved is that too many cooks feel the need to spoil the broth.

I don't know if it went down that far, but it's certainly not the design it once was.

I like the subtle change. Before it had a bit of a bend in it, now it stands much more solidly, if that makes sense. Just happy the second is now confirmed a photoshop not a crossbeam change.

I actually like it better! The only thing is that I don't know what to think about that slight alteration at the top. it's interesting, but would like to see more of it.

I liked the randomness of the old cross bracing more than the newer straight cross bracing.

The newest design isn't nearly on the level the first two were. The top has been royally screwed up and the cross bracing is more boring.

Can't wait to see this rise! I hope the cladding will be that darkish bronze colour like in that render of the roof. It would look pretty elegant

I really like the x bracing better in the new version. The top does bug me a bit. I really hope they decide to make the top similar to the previous versions. Hope to see more renderings release within the coming months. Just excited to see this finally finally rise soon.

I also find the random cross bracing of the original version much better. After all it was architects original vision. What we have now is a result of value engineering I suppose. Also the fat "crown" doesn't look too good compared to the old sleek one. Probably due to the height decrease. But all in all it still is one of the best designs currently proposed imo much better than massing of 225 west. What's more I think this is one of those towers renders really doesn't make a justice. It's just too complex and also the finall result will heavily depend on the execution and quality of materials. We have to wait and see how it will turn out, but based solely on the price tag I guess we can be sure on the quality bit.

Awesome! I love this building... In my opinion is the best proposed project in the city (And 111 West 57th Street comes next).

Finally some good news on that one!

Quote:
With $1B Cash Infusion, Nouvel's MoMA Tower Will Be Built

For the last few years, Jean Nouvel's planned Tower Verre—slated for 53 West 53rd Street near the Museum of Modern Art—has been making the kind of progress that doesn't require any money. In other words, developer Hines filed new plans, and some new renderings (shown below the jump) surfaced, but nothing got built. That might be about to change.

The Journal has news of the gamechanger: the project has gotten $1 billion in financing. The money comes from a few sources in Asia—the Kwee family, billionaires in Singapore, are investing $300 million in the building, and a group of Asian banks plans to lend another $860 million. Construction will probably start next year on the tower, which will include 145 luxury condos and three floors of new gallery space for MoMA. Residents, if all finally goes as planned, should be able to move in in 2018.

apartment market is red hot in the city, so developers are jumping in the last wagon on any train they can.
