They should at least preserve the bronze and exhibit it inside. Perhaps in the sculpture garden, or even hung up as a 'chandelier' of sorts

That's a really sleek, modern podium. Really nice.

And I agree, the bronze facade of the folk museum could be a nice wall decoration for the lobby of Verre, or something.

Put it behind the doorman's desk! It's got the right color, material and angularity to fit nicely with the rest of the tower.

Same thing happens here in Philly. Unless George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin AND Betsy Ross did something together in a building, it's fair game for demolition. Look at how many Victorian masterpieces by Frank Furness were demolished.

Ironic that a museum is being razed to make way for a museum.

Too bad they couldn't incorporate that facade into the new building.

At least as an interior decoration or panelling. The bronze is a nice material.

I have thought for a while that the new, "Hudson Boulevard", should be named, "Bloomberg Boulevard"!

So, when can we expect construction 2020? 2030? Next century?

Every time I take a break from this thread hoping a month or so from then I'd see news of groundbreaking, the only news I see is the folk art museum getting the axe. Frustrating.

Construction starts in the summer. It's been a frustrating wait for all of us fans of the tower but the wait is almost over.

Hines, along with partners Goldman Sachs Real Estate Principal Investment Area and Pontiac Land Group of Singapore, are developing 53W53rd Street, an iconic residential condominium project that will be adjacent to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

Designed by Jean Nouvel, the sweeping 72-story, 750,000-square-foot tower will house 145 high-end condominium residences, designed by world-renowned architect Thierry Despont. In addition, the building's lower floors will include 36,000 square feet of new exhibition space for MoMA distributed over three floors.

The building’s unique silhouette tapers as it rises to a 1,050-foot-tall distinctive spire. Its metal and glass fašade expresses the building's structural system with its many diagonal elements. The tower will include an extensive package of amenities including breathtaking New York City and Central Park views, spectacular common areas, a high-performance fitness facility including a 75-foot lap pool, and full-time concierge service.

All discretionary approvals necessary to build the project are in place and construction is expected to begin in mid 2014 with initial occupancy in late 2018. Lend Lease has been designated as the general contractor and Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group will handle the project's marketing and sales, which are expected to begin in 2014.

I'd like to add if that folk crap section where to be saved, it would have no impact with the building of the Verre.

It will have an impact with MOMA museum as far as changing the layout of their planned extension and effect their plan aesthetically. This tower will rise regardless.

I for one would not care if the folk is razed and ultimately it will.

Does construction starting in the summer mean that prep work will start then I'm guessing?

Maybe the MoMA executives need a new conference table.
