Omg this must be one of the most beautilful plans in new york for a long time
It is good to see New York finally coming up with something that is unique, and just looks like a classic

If they build this I would gladly SWIM across the atlantic to visit it

What's going to be the NIMBY exxcuse this time? It's too taawwwll! It's too beautiful and therefore will attract too many unwanted people to an area that's already packed. It's too imposing. Cut off 72 floors and we'll stop moaning and whining.

I like it.... I like it a lot.

Almost constructivist in it's design, I would love to see this built, it's the kind of architectural stimulation NYC really needs.

New York City? I'd say the entire world needs this architectural stimulation (especially cities like Las Vegas and Dubai where too many times buildings have laughable designs.
There is no such thing as this tower... amazing!

I haven't heard much recently about this one; I hope they can pull it through.

WOW. This is the first time I've properly seen this.

Utterly amazing. Instant icon.

Please build this very soon. I hope it's around 400m as it seems slender in proportion yet makes a bold impact on the skyline.

Best proposal in the world IMO. NYC is going through a rennaissance - there are so many amazing (and tall) buildings proposed.

Update:

This skyscraper is 1,150 feet tall, 100 feet taller than the Chrysler Building, or 350 meters.

December 4 2007

The proposal, at 53 W. 53rd St, commissioned by real estate firm Hines, comprises 75 storeys of accommodation and, at 350m, pierces the skyline at a height between the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings. It will embrace 5,000 square metres of extra accommodation for MoMA, which will expand into its lower floors, above retail provision, while the upper floors will house a seven-star hotel sharing services with the 120 or so (extremely) top-end condominiums above.

Nouvel runs through a presentation on his laptop, showing proposals for the night-time lighting of the building (“it will make it look like it has blood running through the veins of the structure,” he grins), the extraordinary interiors (“the structure becomes the space, we don’t need interior decorators here,” he grins again) and renderings of the pool and the gallery.

Well, at least we know the exact height now. This article looks promising, especially the lighting of the tower. Thanks for posting.

Looks really nice but too much non-habitable structure at the top....

Now I really want to see some night time renders for this tower. It sounds like it will be stunning!

Me too! Especially with its usage of that somewhat "semi"-transparent glass cladding. This tower looks so great!
