I walked by on the 30th of June and saw equipment on the site which was drilling the asphalt.

From the perspective in the pic above, it has very similar proportions to one57. Hope it has an interesting lighting scheme. All towers with great design/height should light themselves appropriately, as they'll be focal points and enhance the skyline at night.

Lots of new constructions in the city, some even taller but none match this one in terms of design. I'll be more excited to watch this get off the ground than any tower out there.

Hopefully they'll start with the foundation directly after the excavation.

Nouvel the architect has stated that the lighting would look like blood flowing through veins. Should be pretty cool.

True indeed. I remember reading that article and getting so pumped up. It was fun reading it again, took me back to 2008.

“The building changes shape as it ascends, it moves around. The shape,” he says, holding up his hand, “is like this, three fingers pointing into the sky.” Nouvel runs through a presentation on his laptop, showing proposals for the night-time lighting of the building (“it will make it look like it has blood running through the veins of the structure,” he grins), the extraordinary interiors (“the structure becomes the space, we don’t need interior decorators here,” he grins again) and renderings of the pool and the gallery.

Now THAT would be sweet!! Too bad it will be a few years before it's finished. I'm taking my first trip to Manhattan with the gf and some friends this October. Would love to see this tower first hand when complete.

I wonder if there are photos of the proposals mentioned in the article. Sounds like he showed a few possible renders.

To me it looks underwehelming on the skyline and the design doesn't really stand out from that view above. Not even as powerful or dominant as one57. I suppose the real greatness of the design will be visible from street level. I used to be all gaga over this tower, now I'm 'meh' about it. I'm looking forward more to the Steinway now.

It's going to be best viewed from Top of the Rock. Verre is much closer to 30 Rock than any of the 57th street towers.
