It is far back so it looks small. Also I made that render not knowing what it will look like at night, the actual tower will probably have exterior lighting.

I look forward to seeing the building's 'skeleton' before it is clad.

As do I. I was walking along 7th and 53rd today and realized that Verre, Roseland, and Baccarat will all occupy a small stretch of W 53rd. Only in NY!

Verre will be a beauty but I so wish the planning board stood firm against the NIMBYs demands to lower the original height from 1,250 ft to 1,050 ft. Locally it will still be incredibly iconic but it not standing out with several towers nearby rising 300-400 ft higher(432 Park, 111 and 217 W57th)lessening the dramatic impact.

Anyone have a source on Nouvel describing the lighting scheme as "pulsing veins?" I am very intrigued by this, but also a little skeptical that they'll be able to pull off much in the way of spectacular lighting on a residential tower.

It's also vague. that could mean anything from an intricate LED display to the standard condo lighting giving 'life' to this building which has incredible shaping.

Ths steel structure is very cool indeed. Much of it will still be visible after completion.

Wait, I thought that he said that about Steinway! Well, this makes a lot more sense. He'll probably just give the braces special lighting, but it'll still look very cool.

Who's designing 111? SHoP? Is there supposed to be a single architect or can it be a group of people?

I don't believe SHoP have named a principal on 111, although generally we've seen Partners Vishaan Chakrabarti and Gregg Pasquarelli representing the firm.

Generally, when we talk about the architect, we're talking about a whole team. Yes Raphael Viñoly is the principal on 432 Park, and Jean Nouvel is the principal on Tower Verre, but Raphael Viñoly Architects and Ateliers Nouvel are both big firms with many individuals contributing. The culture of the firm determines who gets the credit in the public eye -- it seems SHoP is more interested in letting the work speak for itself than putting a Starchitect on the byline, something I can definitely respect.

True, but a great name on a building means added value.

There was an excavator on site today, and some of the asphalt has been ripped up. I tried to snap a photo but an enormous guard said that the museum prohibits photos. Instead, I'll share some photos I snapped of Verre's beautiful neighbors on 54th:

And on 5th
