I'm so amped for this tower. Can't wait.

Below are some renderings for the current design for the tower at 1,050'. (Probably had been posted before but here it is anyway...)

Too bad this sucker got a bad deal with the height. What It could have been!!!!

Sleek & futuristic looking tower. Most excellent. This is just what New York needs.
Height is really impressive too, but at the same time a bit modest by today's standards... Maybe it's just perfect for this building, this design.

This one is hands-down awesome! As someone who follows the London threads on this forum quite closely, I can't help to think of this one being "the pinnacle" in The city-skyline after the endless struggle to get that built! It would look really good! although this one fits NY perfectly too!

I hope they go with a Bank of China-esque lighting scheme.

I'm no architect, but I seriously can't think of any improvements. Sure, it could be taller, but the design is just flawless.

In a perfect world this would be New York's signature tower at 1,800ft and 100 floors.

great building couldn't agree more it would be new yorks signature 21st century tower it still is but it will be lost between towers that are taller.

Personally, it's a little too bold to be "the" signature tower of NYC. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it, but I think it would look a tad odd as tower numero uno. I think 432 Park is more classic New York, which is all about symmetry and order (in appearance, not personality ).

Thanks. It would be helpful if a moderator can put these pics in the first post of this thread. They are much easier to find there.

There are several sites between 5th and 6th that will be redeveloped in the next few years.

Eh. While I wish this would happen I think we may have to wait for the next market cycle. There are already so many coming on & I think the recent additions (like 520 5th Avenue) will have to wait til the early 2020s.

But even with an assumption that only projects currently in the pipeline are done by then (though even that may be generous), the skyline could be #1 globally again in terms of supertalls.

By late 2015 this should be increasingly obvious to the public, as well. 10 HY should be topping-out, the next three HY towers should have their lower levels under construction, and 220 CPS/217 W 57th/53W53rd will be starting to creep into the skyline (and, to the south, 45 E 22nd Street should also be above ground).

56 Leonard and 30 Park Place will have also topped-out by then, and while 5 Beekman is kind of big, it won't make that much of an impact. Still, 175 Greenwich is another that will take up the slack, and who knows what could happen with 125 Greenwich...

But clearly, Midtown is going to see the more dramatic changes over the next few years, as 57th Street (and soon Midtown East) become the first places in the world where buildings of nearly 1,500' sprout everywhere. This is because market conditions actually warrant their construction & not gov't subsidies. In fact, I would guess the Midtown East boom will ultimately dwarf both HY & 57th Street in terms of potential, and that is where I would look for anything that could surpass 1 WTC. It will just be ten+ years down the line.

While, as per the NYT, the condo market is being flooded, bear in mind that Wall Street, despite the M&A boom, has been relatively mild due to the Dodd-Frank restraints. Once they're loosened (which is already starting to happen), demand will be unleashed. Also, real economic growth likely to occur in the next few years, prompting further demand. I think that the next downturn is quite a way off.

I agree with you, though, that NY's skyline is poised for a dramatic change!

Lex Will you please get off Dodd-Frank's back, It's basically a toothless bill that has only one useful part, the necessary legal framework for a federal takeover of a bank incase of a complete systemic collapse. the market is fine and will be fine for at least the next eight years and while I love spuertalls developers also need to build decent and somewhat affordable housing for residents who will provide a tax and commerce base for the city. Instead of russian, chinese, and american oligarchs and plutocrats who seek good investments. That being said I LOVE Torre Verre and every other supertall being built in the city and I hope that the city can change it's zoning regulations to minimize the amount of single family housing in the outer boroughs to allow the supply to somewhat meet the demand.

Also, on that note. An article from the times about development in the upcoming year.

Dodd Frank has severely limited trading which has really hampered Wall St. Many traders are out of work.
