I hope it will, it is definitely one of the best ,,organic" skyscrapers proposed. Much better than the 2nd tallest I remember now, Tour Phare (Paris, 300m). This one has got style and would be a good enrichment for NY skyline with this height.

Well if the site demo is already underway that would be outstanding, becouse i can't wait for this to actually start rising above the street, it has a highly interesting (to me anyway) structural system, and watching them come together is my favorite part of the construction process, esp. if its structural steel...!!!

This building looks great. It will make a great addition to the NY skyline. Imagine the views from it too! Stunning.

It is not so much a restriction as simply a guideline. Anyone building a tower over 2000 feet may request approval from the FCC, which imposed this regulation in the first place. The FAA does not impose this limit, though I'm certain that in a high air traffic area such as NYC they would have a say.

This is not true. Both the FCC and FAA have separate regulations, both that presume air hazard for anything over 2000 feet. The FAA and FCC regulations apply to antennas, and any other structure falls under the FAA regulations.

the plot is already a parking lot, but moma is using it for an exhibition of prefab houses for the next few months.

I've been looking over skyscraper meticulously for over a year. I'm not one to heap adoration on a building easily, but this is spectacular. Easily one of my favourite buildings anywhere, and ever. You lucky bastards!

I guarantee you it doesn't get built. We aren't lucky because we have the worst reputation for incompetent nimbys that destroy projects like this or have them watered down to half the size or less. Whats worse is there's that fabulous city council tha pets them on the head and winks and tells them its all going to be ok. I have 0 hope for anything large scale and stunning being built in New York city while these people are still breathing.

Haha the guy above is such a toolbag. He's just trying to get us started.

I really hope this does get built but I'm a bit pessimistic myself. I pray the city council wouldn't dare say no to a museum expansion. Regardless, the lack of news is disconcerting.

Gee, nygirl, sounds just like Sydney. On the cheerful side, both NY and Sydney remain great places despite all the nimbys, nay-sayers, luddites, self-servers and dickheads that abound in any place where 2 or more people get together.

Don't mind him. He's just your tipical hater. One day he's complaining about the subway then it's about our lack of pedestrian streets and so on. The funny thing is that he chose to live here. lol

I also worry about this project. Construction could start next year right? So I heard...

Damm - such a nice tower; that is fckd up if they cant transfer the air rights, and any other matters. Come on..instant icon, right in Midtown. It seems so easy to us with nothing to do with it.
Even 70 years ago they had 2 supertalls going up at once in Midtown, the Nimby's are such a cck blck!
well anyways, good luck NYC on this gettin built, though I expect this thread will be on page 3 by Monday
