My condolences.

One thing that is great about Manhattan is that it's so stuffed with skyscrapers they're litterally standing against each other. The negative side of that is that fantastic designs like this which aren't megatall will fall partially into obscurity.
Towers like this should actually have their own land. Like with 30 Rock.

I respectfully disagree. That's what they do in Asia. It would take away one of the great things about New York: that nearly every building is part of the sidewalk life. If it were to have its own land it would be like a suburban Houston building in that regard. Yuck!

Went by the site on Halloween, but I didn't get the chance to get close to see the activity. I, however, took a photo just before crossing 53rd St.

Yes I agree. Towers in an existing grid makes a city alive and not a display of ego's. In NYC you walk and are surprised what's next around the corner. In some Asian cities the spatial scale is made for cars not humans.

Will be a beautiful tower, when finished a reason to visit NYC another time.

I get your point, and yes that`s true. However, with this tower I`m afraid it won`t nake an impact very much when walking on the street. It`s as tall as the Chrysler Buildibg but in a denser area. It it boxed in up until 150ft. The design just doesn`t work as good when wall to wall with it`s neighbours imo. But I`ll just wait and see what for impact it will have.

This is the way New York builds its supertalls ...

I don't want to nitpick but actually of the 6 current supertalls finished. Only One57 is built like that with two neighbours.

The WTC site (and to some extent the Hudson Yards) is the only exception. All other supertalls follow the street grid and are built in a highly urban / dense area.

A gem to be hidden among the concrete and steel weeds, as it were.

Hunser is right, besides the WTC and HY, all the supertalls follow the street grid.
As far as the Chrysler, its impact will be diminished with 1 Vanderbilt next door and whatever comes up next with the rezoning of the area, will that make the Chrysler less of a gem? Nope. Same applies with TV, this is one of the best designed towers u/c, if not the best, and it will be appreciated regardless of what's around it (it too might be dwarfed if 666 5th ave moves forward).

That is one messy building site. Given that space is so tight, you think they would have everything clean and nicely organised.
