Yesterday was my coldest skyscraper walk. It was somewhat pleasant 21 F when I started but the temperature keep dropping until it was brutal 12 F with -6F wild chill when I took these photos.

Rising fast.

You can see TV characteristic pillars taking shape already.

Off topic. Just in case you wonder why Manhattan ground work takes a lot of time.

Jeez, why is this tower rising so fast? Lastime I saw a picture of it it was below ground level. I'm super excited to see it finished!

As a european civil engineer, I find construction sites on Manhattan utterly fascinating. Not only due to the sheer size of the newest supertalls, but also the fact this area is already superdense. We're having enough troubles erecting 5-storey buildings inbetween existing ones, let alone a several hundred metre tall building inbetween other, several hundred metre tall buildings.
I'm coming May this year, cannot wait. Already making notes about all the buildings to see.

Oh, and forgot to add, as skyscraper designs go, TV is one of the best, to my eyes at least.

It seems so surreal to see this finally rising above ground after all these years!

That is the first time I have ever heard that term used for a building rising above ground. The term I have generally heard is "going vertical"

Crowning implies that the crown is being completed for me (ie. topping out).

It is more a comparison with giving birth. When a baby is "crowning" is when the head begins to be visible through the vaginal opening of the mother... In this case the building is begining to be visible above the hole in the ground... I think the analogy is kind of clear...

I always thought this will be a steal tower, i am amazed to see formworks. Cant wait for it to shoot up and be an iconic jewel in the skyline. :-)
