It does because the height could have made it standout among the tallest skyscrapers in that vicinity. In other words the taller it looks the better it would be in that location. One can make a comparison using a tall man to a short man of the same physique to distinguish the difference it would have made if it was taller.

I doubt the neighbours are happy with a tall new tower right up against them, effectively ruining its complete side. It would also have been better for Torre Verre to have stood out on its own. With another tall on its other side, this beauty will get totally lost.

I love how Torre Verre looks like it's snuggled right up against the back of 1330 6th avenue

Not only what NYCrulz said is true, but at least I prefer the supertalls being built in NY, as part of the city, side by side with other buildings, contrasting with them but fitting in with their context. Typical modern complexes like the ones that are being built in Asia sometimes make the city feel extremely artificial. They don't want to add anything to the city, they want to stand out whatever the cost. And then you get stuff like Dubai, in which the Marina area looks more like a bunch of buildings with some highways between them instead of a real city.

Just Curious: when did Tour Verre (Glass Tower) become Torre (Spanish/Italian) Verre (mixed languages)? It's French, same as its architect, Atelier Nouvel.

The tower hasn't been officially referred to by any of those name variations for a long time. The branding is 53W53 (as frustratingly goofy as that is). This forum has hung onto "Tower Verre" well past the change, but it's probably time to retire/change the thread title.

Will Bruce Wayne settle in/make his residence in to this building when it's all set and done..?

So Gotham... This building is like the batmobile of skyscrapers,, and buildings in general.
