this tower is going to be a very spectacular building once finished. So far, is spectacular, imagine once finished. I love it. I am planning a visit to Manhattan , but I've decided to go once the tower is finished and go to the top of the rock and see the building from there. I can't wait¡¡¡

That's surreal, particularly since it's just a small cross-section of the man-made forest.

Couldn't they have saved themselves a lot of work and not have the cement crossbeams be real?
They're covering them up with flat glass which replicates the look....
Why not just go with that?

Some crossbracing is necessary against shear forces. If they did it in a way easier to be constructed, but sticked with the same cladding, they would have lost window area.

If they just coverd up the more simple crossbeams, it probably wouldn't look good from the outside.

Besides from Tower Verre it's a bit of a problem for new buildings in the international style today. On the one had you wan't to show your structural elements like it's done on S. R. Crown Hall on the other hand you have to cover your whole building under insulation to meet effiecency standards which leads to facades feeling a bit 'fake' (some might say this about Tower Verre). Interesting, because the international style wanted to end the era of 'fake' facades 80 years ago, when the structural elements were already steelwork, but the outside still historism.
