You are joking right? Because if there is any comptition, it's between New York, Chicago,Dubai, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Every other city in the world falls far behind...

Why did you say Dubai? It's farely new to the skyscraper era. And most of their Supertall are unfinish. Because they have a handfull of supertall doesn't make it a skyscrapercity. New York has hundreds of finish skyscraper so does Hong Kong, Chicago and some of the other city skyscrapercities. Dubai has none of that maybe it will in 10 or 20 years but not now.

Dubai is not comparable to real cities in terms of urbanity, yet. Maybe in a few decades when all these empty houses are filled with people...

The numbers of those Cities above are quite accurate but you miss alot important big cities like London , Paris ,Toronto ,Moscow are all planning to have supertalls soon in their Cities and already have 200m+ in their Cities

Who cares about numbers. NYC got class, a pulse, the most beautiful skyscrapers, layers of history visible everywhere and it's the very symbol of urbanity. That can't be replaced just like that. The day Dubai get near century old skyscrapers with gargoyles in a true urbanic setting then we can talk.

BTW, I'm happy for the good news, but not quite relaxed until construction has started.

sorry everybody for starting a flare, I seriously didn't want to. Mine was a consideration of the past, present and future on the skyscraper as a human manifestation, so I chose those cities that, for me (so extremely personal, not a universal truth) represent this. Thats all to it, I wasn't saying some city was better than any other city.
I'll try not to do that mistake again, too many fanatics around to have a civil discussion...

it has nothing to do with fanatics, I'm just sick of seeing Dubai name pop up when every we talk about major cities. Whats the point of building skyscrapers so tall. There was a reason for doing it in NYC and most of the other major cities. Everytime I see pictures of Dubai all I see is sand wheres the damn people, does anybody live there. They're just building all those supertall just to say they have the most. And to me that spells fake city with no life. But enough about that back to the topic.

Let's get back on track... this is the best new supertall on earth right now for myself, that in my mind I believe that this will be approved by the city council without any modifications needed. This will be a masterpiece in the Manhattan skyline,... does anybody have the date when Verre will be up for the review by the city...?

what a masterpiece! NYC needs some modern iconic buidings IMO. after the twins were destroyed, the most dominating building is the ESB from the 30es
