it would be cool if we could collect enough money to get a huge advertisement on the side of a building that says something like "skyscrapers are a part of New York, get used to it! "
Are there no such group in New York? You really should start one. Me and three friends started up a group called "Yimby" in Stockholm (which has some serious NIMBY-problems which are even institutionalized) less than a year ago and we already have passed more than 2700 members (remember, Stockholm is a small city compared to NYC...)
We have had some great media attention with articles in one of Swedens largest newspapers, Television-appearances and more. Started right here on SCC of course
So I say, just do it!

This building is truly marvelous and I really hope this gets built. I think it's right up there in the league of Empire State and Chrysler Bldg. I also completely love the way New York-skyscrapers almost always have such a nice urban integration. Skyscrapers right on the sidewalk. Bam! (As Steve Jobs would say). It creates a much more interresting urban streetlife than the isolated "tower in a park"-projects...

It is still not on the City Councils Docket for approval. Until then the news will be quiet, but don't take it in the wrong way.

Nothing good or bad has hapened; it has yet to be approved by the city, something which may not happen for months, so just be patient.

With economic downturn don't expect any more mega-projects or supertalls to be put through any time soon. I think it'll be approved when the $ is there.

I'm not sure where I read this, but this was nominated as one of the top ten innovative designs for a skyscraper, but I guess a lot new yorkers are not liking this project at all. If I find it, I'll post it.
