If it wasn't going to get built, it would have died years ago.

Hines Development has delayed the tower due to real estate market conditions.

There is no doubt that this will be built. There is strong demand for high-end construction in NY. It likely will start next year.

I'm thinking the same thing. High end space in Midtown is getting tight and there's not much product in the pipeline. This ain't Downtown...

There's also a demand for very high-end hotels in NY.

Also, the dollar's drop versus the Euro and pound makes this even more appealing to foreign buyers.

Yep, The Plaza alone lost what, 600 rooms? A stronger Euro could bring back some interest and Asian buyers too. A top trophy tower like this will get a lot of wallets open. One question: do buyers get unlimited access to MoMA?

Three years of a stronger euro hasn't done shit for this building. If you think that's what going to get this building built, I got news for you.

Thanks for the newsflash, Walter Cronkite. The strong Euro will certainly help this building. The fact that we've been in a severe recession for nearly three years is what has held this building back.

The housing market caused the recession. It would be a different story, all together if this was a office building.

The housing market was among the factors that caused the recession. It alone was not the sole cause.

More importantly, in NYC, there is a very strong demand for very high-end property. This tower will be a huge success.

This tower has only been approved for a few months, not 3 years. It's a little hard to ask for deposits when you don't even know if you're approved. Hines is no fly by night developer. They don't hold condo parties without any financing for their buildings. And when they're ready to move, they move quickly.
