I agree; I'd have to say that this tower is at least 1,200 feet, or 366 meters, tall, according to the renderings, which seem to be quite precise.

Towers like this will be popping up all over midtown. But, for now, this is the best.

To reiterate my first comment, that is fricking unbelievable. For a second there I thought it was the shrooms messing with me but its not. Its like i'm in the twilight zone. Is that really gonna get built here? Or in Shroom City?

Should I smack you? Yes, it will be built! And, without a doubt, it's taller than the Chrysler Building. It could be as tall as 1,300, but we'll have to wait for a final height. I hate to start up rumors of how tall it could be, but, if it is indeed 1,200'+, midtown will have a building that tourists will flock to, something seen from miles in every direction, something to take pride in.

Even if she were 800 feet tall, she'd still be amazing, but she's much taller than that for sure. This is a real business area so I guess there won't be many NIMBYs.

^Yes, for over a year. Stay off the shrooms.

According to a new article, construction starts in early 2009, so it's all go I hope.

OMG this is amazing, what a magnificent design. The cross bracing is perfect!!! PLEASE BUILD ME!!!!

wow I went through the posts of the renderings and that tower looks like it belongs there, it just goes so well with the surroundings.

This is a beauty--probably the best proposal I've ever seen on these pages, and a template for so many architects' efforts to marry the organic and machined. It has a sculptural presence largely absent from NY towers since the zoning laws were scrapped. Its form reminds me of some of Hugh Ferriss' envelope renderings--all of the gothic structural complication but more asymmetrical and less ponderous. Always happy to see art trump accounting. Here's a Ferriss link for reference, I had the final illustration, "Religion", in mind:http://thenonist.com/index.php/theno...tor_of_gotham/

wow, NYC pushing the envelope out there a little. The crossbracing looks like a spiders web, very apt for the home of Spiderman. It's really an astonishing design, and sort of makes up for the lack of progress on my other favourite NYC project, the Santiago Calatrava design at 80 South Street.

You'll probably this under construction sooner than us with the Shard........ bloody credit crunch funding issues!

Is it safe to say that this will be NY's 21st century equivalent of the Chrysler Building?

To me, the beauty of NY is that this extraordinary tower will be located a few buildings down the street from these classic gems. London is probably the only other city that has such a juxtaposition of classic and ultramodern structures sitting side-by-side.
