Oh wow nice. So I don't like new version of a tower (which, btw I believed is best thing to rise in this city in the near future) and now I have complex against ny? Look at your sig and tell me who is the person with a complex here.

The new tower is anything but value engineered.

This will likely be one of the finest towers anywhere on earth.

Are you seriously judging the quality of materials from a tiny low-res render? Really?

By the way, Robert is trolling you hard. Have some sense.

This rendering confirms my hope that the redesigned tower would simply be the previous version scaled to 1050 ft. It's obvious from the other set of images that the design has been spared. It is also a positive signal for the continuation of this project.

Believe me. I would love it would be just a matter of a bad render. But look for yourself. Both pictures are small and yet the one on the left looks ways better than the one on the right which looks like cheap chinese version of the tower.

Yeah trolling is pretty much what he is doing right now.

Maybe I'm overeating here a bit. But it's only because I honestly think great potential is about to be wasted here.

I preferred the original version myself. It appeared more shard/spear like. The new version still holds true to the original design. The top is a little fatter and squat, but still looks very good. I think it'll be the best building to go up in NYC since 8 Spruce Street.

It may even top that. If so, we'll have to go a long way back to find one that rivals this one.

The new rendering looks better to me.

It certainly doesn't look cheaper. It looks more nuanced and substantial.

The original render was more touched up. It appears to me the only thing that changed about the tower is its shape. I think others would agree with me here.

You know chinese version of masterpiece will still be a pretty good tower which I hope gets build. But I just feel disappointed. As I said it looks like it got value engineered to make it easier (cheaper) to build and make it a more efficient building. Look at the beams, they are significantly thinner now and in less number to most likely provide more light access. It also looks like they are no more protruding off the glass which likely makes them easier to construct and because they are flat makes it easier to work with glass. It also looks like level separating black panels disappeared. All that takes a lot from the "gotham" character it has on the old renderings.

You're making much ado about a render.

Honestly. At least it's better than 432 Park Avenue.

Take a look at the high res on the first page> http://i.imgur.com/yAla8.jpg

Who ever did it took great care making the structure 3d and even took the time to add in ceilings(I think).

Even in low res, it's clear the new render does not have see through glass meaning you can not see the depth of the structure.

Looks like what this tower really needs is a very transparent glass then. Still new render lacks more details (especially on the glass) than those visible behind the windows. We can only hope it's all thanks to crappy render, but that begs the question: why would they release such a poor render if they obviously can do much better?

I hope the steel will look on this building like the steel on JHC looks.

Patty,

Only in the world's financial capital, in the midst of a global recession, can we start the day with news of a supertall landmark planned for E 42nd St., then shift to news of a 1,550 foot+ landmark, then conclude by criticizing a 300m+ landmark next to MoMa (and criticize a 400m tower on Park in the midst of it all). What a city!

Can you imagine what will be built when Wall Street is booming again? As Frank Sinatra aptly commented: "New York, New York! It's a hell of a town!!"

Robert donīt take it too personally, but you are god awefully annoying with repeating yourself of how great NY is. We got it.

On topic: No matter what the renders show, this will be a remarkable icon. Donīt forget who the architect is and remember the treatment on his building close to the Highline, which is a true masterpiece.
