The new T1 trainsets are in use since this week. They look very similar to the T trainsets, with only a difference in color (silver), electronic displays (inside and outside) and air conditioning.

Some pics:

wow...

nice topic man

U6 is my favorite Vienna line, since i was kid, i always enjoyed riding with her from Florisdorf to Siebenhirten...
now that i'm older, i still love when i come to Vienna, go to Meidling and jump toward north, just to see that amazing view
it really is something special...

@bahnsteig4... how many sets are released on tracks? they look like the old ones, but silver color add some new thing :P
are there any other differences beside outer look?

Currently are 3 trainsets on tracks and 46 trainssets ordered going slowly to replace the old E6/c6 trainsets.
Well, the new trainset are air-conditioned, they adapted the inner design from the type-V trains.

The technical differences between T and T1 are, T1 sounds a bit like the type-V, driving input increased by 30% which ables the train to reach a maximum speed of 80km/h, the heat energy which are produced by the brakes will be transfered to power energy and sent back to the power supply line to prevent waste of energy.

Cool news. Its good when the old trains are going to be replaced. Hopefully they could speed up the entire U6 then.

As a side not: I rather dislike those new plastic seats. I can understand to a certain extend that the Wiener Linien want to get rid of the fabric seats in order to save cleaning and maintenance costs.

But the timber imitate seats in older trains have the same advantage are more comfortable and look far less cheap. Why isn't a more classy with them possible?

true... i always liked those comfortable fabric seats in U-bahn... but i suppose this will ease their maintenance and reduce costs for that...

i hope to ride the new U6 next weekend when i come up there

From a hygiene point of view, fabric is pretty bad, too.

@DJZG: Have fun!

i never been to Vienna, however being a germanic country i expected better, in some of the pictures Vienna looks like former communist country, very much decrepit like london infrastructure

I'd generally say that Vienna is very well kempt! A bit of pealing paint on the U-bahn doesn't mean that it isn't a beautiful city (which it is widely regarded as).

Svartmetal, i never been to Vienna or any part of Austria, however i expected it to be a well kept city, and i am sure over all it is, however i was very surprised to see the peel off buildling pictures, just didnt expect that from a germanic country. The 2nd picture i quoted (joseptstadder strasser above green door) could be in Manchester or Birmingham

Does anyone know who built/designed the trains?

Not sure about the design, but the production takes place at Lohner in Vienna.

They already sold some of the old ones tot the Netherlands!

From september, they will run on Utrecht's sneltram-line in peak hours.

The trains are built by Siemens (V type) and Bombardier (T1 type).

They are definitely no longer suitable for real metro purposes, especially not on busy lines such as U6, but I guess (if they are well maintained, which they are) they can still do a great job on accellerated tram lines.
