What does "wolf in der au" mean in English?
Wolf in the floodplain.
(The area has always been known under that name, probably to do with some old legend or tale.)

heh... i have a flat on the other side of Lainzer tunnel so i'm familiar with it pretty well
but when was Wienerwald tunnel announced? where will it lead? north?

Even though it doesn't really belong here...
Answer retaliation!
Construction began in September 2004, it's expected to be in use in 2012. Length will be 13.35km.

You GOTTA be kidding me! 4 days in use - and look at that. Spoilt brats living in this area, that's for sure. Semi-conservative bunch of jerks with rich parents.

The eastern end of Wienerwaldtunnel. That's where, starting 2013, long-distance trains will first get a glimpse of fresh air in Vienna.

I've seen that the Vienna S-bahn has very low frequencies compared with others european cities. In Berlin and Hamburg the S-bahn trains run every 10 minutes, in Munich every 20 minutes.

Average is every 10 minutes. Of course it depends where.

Not really. There are branches with 3-minute frequencies, as well. We are here talking about a rather rural area.

Wonderful pics Bahnsteig, please keep them coming.
Wien has the best public transport network you could possibly imagine for a city of its size.

Bahnsteig4, my man! Thanks for the pics! I've been waiting to see some! I think the S-Bahn station itself looks quite nice, but the graffitis make it look quite shabby (especially with the rainy weather and grey sky).

I am not sure if the S-Bahn station looks so nice... There is so much gray!

Good grief! Taggers already defiled it? That's a shame.

I was indeed a little disappointed. Compared to the new airport station, it looked rather cheap.

Wolf in der Au is a station in the middle of suburbia, i think the rough look fits the area much better than the glossy, hyper-modern look of the airport station. And keep in mind that Wolf in der Au is not finished yet.

Btw. are there any shelters or rooms that provide protection from weather? I didn't see any on the photos.

edit: I must be blind, now I saw that there are
