Urbanrail covers everthing until the expansion which is currently under construction (U2 to Aspernstraße) in some detail. The projects mentioned in a short way but all there is to say currently. There are bigger plans but they are very speculative as the plans changed already quite a number of times during the last decades.

This map is pretty speculative regarding the enlargements going beyond those of the map above.
A radical change would take place by creating a U5 and radically reorienting the U2. A pretty
controversial issue in fact as the U2 has consumed already a lot of money for rather little in demand
in return.

Ah, memories. I was in Vienna last fall. I used the U-Bahn and bus only. I wish I would have needed to use the tram, but never found a need for it. I should have just gotten on to say I used it.

What a wonderful city and transit system. The U-Bahn was easy to use and always fast. I even ventured out of the city center to visit a heurigen and even then it was so simple and safe to get around.

Visiting European cities really makes me jealous as a transit fan living in America.

Has there been any discussion of extending the S7 S-bahn line to the city center of Bratislava?

In the meantime, what are the good options for going between the Vienna and Bratislava city centers by public transport? Is there an express bus?

I would recommend you, to go there by train! You can buy a EURegio-Ticket for 14 euro (Vienna-Bratislava-Vienna and also valid for the public transport in Bratislava!) at the oebb-ticket machines.

For more information -> http://www.oebb.at/en/Travelling_abr...t%29/index.jsp

Edit: And from Bratislava hl.st. you can take (what i know) the tramline 13 to the endstation and then you are in the city center! (but please check that better in the internet.)

Thanks hhouse!

I notice that the U2 line is scheduled for extension from Karlsplatz to Schwarzenbergplatz to Rennweg to St. Marx to Arsenal to Gudrunstrasse by 2019. Opening the section from Rennweg to Gudrunstrasse by 2019 makes sense to me. I'm wondering why the section from Karlsplatz to Rennweg wasn't given higher priority. It seems to me like an important connection between the Stammstrecke and the western part of the city centre.

Does anyone know where Bahnsteig4's subway line portraits are? I think the U2 one needs an update! as a matter of fact the pictures of the new stations aren't even in here yet.

Unfortunately, Bahnsteig left the forum quite a year ago :-(
