I think Barret, bless him, is being a bit pre-emptive. The Shard is approved and has contracts signed I think with a building firm. Demolition of the current site is under way, but it is still waiting for final funding to be sorted out, there are lots of different issues going on with this tower at the moment, it's hard to explain, but if all goes according to plan it should start construction in 2009 with a 2011/2012 completion date.

I said jc doesn't need it but that it would be cool. Do you actually finish reading my posts before you start typing yours?

Baghdad, lol, only joking, along with the Glass Shard for London, other supertalls would be nice in the city, if only Bishopsgate was a bit taller

Melbourne very nearly got the worlds tallest in 2001 (the Grollo Tower) at 113 floors and 560 meters. Argueably the closest "never built" to being built.

on that note its quite likely next week a new supertall could be annouced for Melbourne - telco giant Telstra is consolidating its national operations into one enourmous global HQ - 140,000 square meters in office space alone required.

What I would like to see are secondary CBDs in NY's outer borough plus some supertalls. But Manhattan should still remain as the city centre.
