"We have collaborated to bring you a project of hope completely dedicated to the memory of those who perished on September 11, to those who survived and to those who relentlessly worked to heal our broken spirit. We sincerely feel that the Twin Towers II project and its vision is one that will rebuild our nation’s fragile will and strength while providing future generations of Americans the promise of remembering the events of 9/11/01 with honor and dignity."

~Kenneth L. Gardner

Ken Gardner, Structural Engineer, is an architectural model designer for some of the
most prominent names in real-estate. He is a graduate of Rutgers University College of
Engineering where he specialized in structural design.

He was invited by the Atlantic Builders Convention to be there, so I see nothing wrong with this.

Nevertheless, I will personally be going to that event to meet, which will be the first time I have ever met him in person after that missed opportunity at the Trump Tower nearly three years ago.

It was pretty much aimed at me, which I find as uncalled for as always.

Towering waste

Pleasantville, N.Y.: I'm surprised the Daily News looks only at the new PATH station as a boondoggle ("Bust this boondoggle," editorial, April 16). This is the case for the entire World Trade Center site.

We may sponsor another contest in the New Year… and if we do, any photos that have already been sent in would be entered to win. So whenever you pass one of these images, or see one pass, please snap it on your camera phone and send it to sidewalks@twintowersalliance.com. Everyone who sends in a photo of the Twin Towers in a current setting will have a shot at winning the next drawing — multiple chances for multiple entries — and those that have already been submitted will be rolled over into the new giveaway, so keep the snapshots coming.

4/19/08 — Downtown Unraveling… That is what New York Post columnist Steve Cuozzo dubbed the situation a few weeks back and it’s been all downhill from there. Yesterday’s news brought the bizarre disclosure that two sets of plans for the “Freedom Tower” were found in a Soho trash bin. That seems too appropriate to have been a mistake. Much more likely, a pro-Twin Towers Port Authority worker (of which there are many) decided to make a statement and put the plans right where they belong.

We are overhauling this site to put the focus on the solution presented at www.WTC2011.com. When every week exposes another negative about the current development, a thorough examination of the trouble-plagued plan is now more necessary than ever. Why are those in charge trying so hard to drive a square peg into a round hole when the most popular solution — new Twin Towers — would also be the easiest to achieve?

Why don't you guys just try to buy out silverstein? I think, then, when you've legitimately gained ownership over the property you should be able to do with it whatever you want to. Until then the TTA is really just a bunch of whining people bent on a site they have absolutely no control or power over ( although they would like you to think differently), and a pair of towers they overall have no significance to other than this odd love affair connecting replica twin towers to bringing New York back to their perceived normalcy.

Be prepared for some "debunking" even though "debunking that still won't bring your towers back.

http://www.twintowersalliance.com/pe...ihan-principle
Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Senior Senator from New York, retired from the Senate in 2001. He died in March 2003. Sen. Moynihan was a fierce critic of the sort of short-sighted policy that allowed the magnificent Pennsylvania Station to be torn down to build Madison Square Garden, which he called a basketball court with a hole under it. It is a good bet that if the Senator had been feeling stronger and maintained his place in the Senate, the insanity and the inanity surrounding the rebuilding of the World Trade Center would never have been allowed to overcome the public’s good sense.

Senator Moynihan is well-known for having held that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not to their own facts. The rebuilding of the World Trade Center has been overrun by opinions masquerading as facts… As time goes by, we will post some of the more glaring disconnects.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FACT: In July 2002, this full-page New York Post headline announced what came as no surprise to most New Yorkers: “Half of New York Wants The Twin Towers REBUILT.” Coming less than a year after the attacks, with many people still shell-shocked by the enormous tragedy, that was an impressive statement. Especially since the other half was not a bloc, but included differing points of view. In other words, more people voted for the Towers than voted for Bill Clinton in either of his elections to the Presidency.

FACT: In “Sixteen Acres — Architecture and the Outrageous Struggle for the Future of Ground Zero,” respected architecture critic Philip Nobel wrote: “Though it would always run at least 50 percent in scientific polls (online it did much better), the idea of replacing the Twins never really had a fair trial…”

OPINION: In May 2005, New Yorker critic Paul Goldberger told a CNN reporter: “It’s possible to rebuild some version of the original Twin Towers. But why would anyone want to? They were not particularly beloved buildings.” Mr. Goldberger won a Pulitzer Prize for “Up from Zero,” his account of the rebuilding process. So how should we account for the inaccuracy of his account?

Let's take a poll now, six years later, and see how they do now, then, and not rely on something that was less than a year after 9/11.

PA'S TRASH, TERRORISTS' TREASURE

April 23, 2008 -- THE ISSUE: Copies of the Freedom Tower blueprints found in a New York City garbage can.

The terrorists chose to attack the World Trade Center because it was a massive target, representing the "ills" of the Western world ("PA Probers Trash Towering Blueprint Idiots," April 19).

So what is the solution? Build another, even more massive target - and then leave the plans in an NYC trashcan.

Hubris and stupidity seem to go hand-in-hand.

Jean Standish
Manhattan

****
To simply discard schematics of the Freedom Tower and other vital drawings in a garbage can is absolutely mind-numbing.

Hasn't anyone heard of a shredder?

It's time that these public officials be held accountable. The buck starts and stops at the top, and that's where heads should start rolling.

Greg Huelbig
Highland Mill

****
The Freedom Tower blueprints are right where they belong - in the trash.

Bring back the towers.

Anthony Zaccone
Staten Island

****

Have you considered that the plans were not carelessly dumped in a trash can, but were put there on purpose and picked up by the wrong person?

Robert Mullins
Virginia Beach, Va.

****
I don't know what makes me more angry: the fact that the WTC documents were carelessly discarded, or that a PA spokeswoman seemed so cavalier in her remarks about future security leaks.

Thank goodness Mike Fleming was smart enough to recognize the plans and honest enough to return them.

I suggest that Fleming be appointed head of PA security.

Patrick T. Reynolds

WORLD TRADE AND WORLD PEACE

The architect of the real World Trade Center, Minoru Yamasaki, said that "World trade means world peace and consequently the World Trade Center... is a living symbol of man's dedication to world peace... a representation of man's belief in humanity, his need for individual dignity, his beliefs in the cooperation of men, and through cooperation, his ability to find greatness." Have we really given up on all of that?

Twin towers are visual shorthand for the principles of parity, equality, respect – the very core of what was under attack on 9/11. There is every reason to resist the wanton exchange of twin towers for a monolithic obelisk and a trendy collection of mediocre buildings.

Replacing the inital vision they outpictured of peaceful coexistence and mutual prosperity with a single fortress is a trade-off we DO NOT have to accept. It's actually a good thing that the years since September 11, 2001 were spent spinning our wheels – or we would have gone so much farther in the wrong direction.

Not long ago An American teenager living outside Dubai sent us an eloquent message: "New York wants [its] castle back, not a bunker... New York needs a crown, not a helmet!"

Even more recently this comment was left on the site: "Greetings from IRAN…I'm so sorry and I hope us to see the towers once again together…Those two towers are not just buildings…They are also the symbol of people who hate terrorism and everyone who brake the PEACE…so let us rebuild our world together!!"

People care a lot more about the future World Trade Center than officials think they do.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a 2004 New York Post op-ed entitled "World Trade Sellouts," Nicole Gelinas wrote: "Osama bin Laden gave the order to destroy the World Trade Center – but Gov. Pataki & Co. are paying for the funeral." Actually, the taxpayers are the ones paying for it – as usual – but Gov. Pataki, Mayor Bloomberg, Sen. Schumer, Congressman Rangel, among others, didn't have to agree to be pallbearers.

It's not too late for people of good will to prevail over a selfish, cynical, and arrogant power structure. If we don't fight such a brazen abuse of power in deciding the future of this publicly-owned property and taxpayer-subsidized effort, particularly when it means so much to all of us, then we won't just be giving away sixteen acres in New York City – we'll be letting go of a big chunk of our country as well.

*We are aware that some people object to the term "Ground Zero" and therefore, out of respect for that viewpoint, we use it more sparingly than it is used in the mainstream media. But sometimes we think it is the best way to refer to the WTC.
