Hey All,
Just thought I’d put up a few pics of my trip to India this summer. All pics taken with my phone, (often out of the side of a bus/back of a scooter) so not the greatest quality, but hopefully not too bad either! J So that you know what to expect, I went to Bombay/Nerul then onto Jamnagar and a couple of other places in Kathiawad (I’ll try to keep the Touristy Bombay shots to a minimum as I’m sure you’ve seen it all before! )Bombay Maidan ![]() Marine Drive Skyline ![]() Random SSC type shots ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Navi Mumbai (Nerul) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Slum-Dweller Rehousing Buildings ![]() Domestic Terminal ![]() What I thought was my Plane ![]() My Actual Plane… ![]() Luckily, I survived a trip in that ^ so more pics to follow!

Jamnagar
My ancestral hometown, a strange place really, it has no train station, barely anyone speaks English or knows anything about IT, but it’s still booming at a ridiculous rate, mainly due to the industrial heavyweights of Reliance and Essar. Its also looks like Jamnagar will soon take over from Rajkot as the most important city in Kathiawad (was probably 5th in the list 10yrs ago!) Anyway, now for some pics! Junagadh/Girnar
Junagadh is a City in the centre of Kathiawad with a pop of approx 1.5lakhs, like most people who go to Junagadh, I really only went there to go to the series of temples along the Girnar Mountain, climbing thousands of steps along the way! The time I spent in the city centre was heavily interrupted by monsoon rainfall, so unfortunately I have no real pics of the city itself, but in all honesty it isn’t all that impressive from a modern development point of view (although the older buildings are wonderful!), roads are very very very bad and there are no new buildings to speak of, although there is a large mall coming up near the bus stand. Anyway, pics! Not sure really, these were in NE Bombay, on the side of the Sion-Panvel Highway, on the stretch between Trombay and the Vashi Bridge; which is nowhere near Dharavi (although im not sure whether that really makes a difference?)

Slum redevelopment
This photo is taken at Mankhurd on Sion-Panvel Highway. Chandivili, Dahisar in North-West Mumbai, Mankhurd in North-East Mumbai are the places where those slums affected by projects going in Mumbai get 250 sq feet flats. The slums in Dharavi are most likely to get accommodation in their local areas as they have formed societies. Last edited by sam0m; December 15th, 2007 at 06:33 AM. |

And after a long delay, the final set of pics...
Bhanvad & Ghumli Bhanvad is small town/large village, which strangely has better roads than the city of Junagadh, just passed through the town to go to the Ancient settlement of Ghumli which houses some historic ruins.
