I was looking around for a flight between Vienna and the USA and there's only the JFK option with AUA. Not even one US airline in Austria.

That's too bad. More options would make the destination a bit cheaper!!!

I'm quite sure there are many one or two-stop options available on all major US and European airlines which can be quite a bargain.

When my friend was flying to New York it was better to drive him to Budapest. Prague's got Delta flights as well, even code shared to Bratislava by CSA.

On the other hand many flights by Air France from VIE are operated as code shared with Delta and I could find flights from 300-400 euro.

Austrian by now operates Dulles, JFK and YYZ, but there are plans to expand their network to LAX and/or SFO.

Skylink is a huge disaster caused by very bad project management - project costs are much higher than planned and the building was to be opened in 2008. The plan now is to open the new terminal in mid 2012.

so when the skylink is opened, will the aua and star alliance flights still be operated at terminal 1 or at the new terminal?

I am pretty sure they'll transfer to the new terminal. Everything else would be a huge surprise. And honestly, if I were an Austrian manager, I would not accept not being transfered to the new terminal.

They should pay all airlines a compensation for the delay they have caused. For Austrian the airport is a competitive disadvantage compared to Zurich (Swiss) or Munich (Lufthansa). Even Prague (Czech) has better facilities. Its a shame for one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

Could anyone post a map about the new terminal?
I never flew to VIE and don't know anything about the airport map. On the (poor) official website I couldn't find anything interesting.

Could this new terminal strongly increase the international traffic despite MUC and ZRH?
Thanks

I doubt that a single terminal, no matter how state of the art it is, actually could increase international traffic. Nevertheless VIE was facing massive growth rates in the last few years (almost 60 % from 2003 to 2008), which made the new terminal (+ 10 Mio. PAX) necessary.

There actually is a nice map of the old terminals available on the official website:

http://www.viennaairport.com/jart/pr...ve-mode=active

I also found two cross sections about the new terminal. It's in german though...

The airport seems very small. I knew about the growth rates in VIE, that's why I can't understand why they took so long time to build a new terminal.

Thanks for the link.

It indeed seems very small. Much more like some regional airport than an international hub. The new terminal definitely changes that. It seems to be bigger than the entire old structure. And quite frankly it looks amazing.
