Re: Skyscraper Fires

The most terrible outside the World Trade Center disaster, to date, occurred on February 1, 1974.... Joelma Bank Building (Sao Paulo, Brazil). We, skyscraper lovers, would be naive to believe the Same can't happen in Today's world!

Watch, if You dare, the 10 min. documentary....
" Incendio ". WARNING: The following, documentary, url contains disturbing and graphic footage of the tragedy. Viewer discretion is, strongly, advised!

On the 20 November 2003, HSBC's Headquarters in the Levent district of Istanbul were severely damaged in one of a series of bombings in Istanbul in 2003. Three members of HSBC staff lost their lives and a total of 43 were injured in the blasts.

The bank was fully open for business on the following working day, with a temporary Headquarters being established in Esentepe, Istanbul and over 3,000 corporate customers informed of the situation on the day of the blast.

Belgrade 1999
April 21, 1999 it was badly damaged by NATO air-strikes as part of the Kosovo War. In total 12 Tomahawk missiles were fired at this building. Amazingly the structure was so tough that it withstood these attacks.
The original building was 105 m tall.

Prudential was the first inter-war high-rise in Warsaw to exceed 70 meters, 100mwith antenna and the first to exceed 16 floors. Surpassing PASTa, it held the Warsaw's tallest building title until Palace of Culture and Science was constructed.

before the War 1937:

At the beginning of WWII- 1939:

fter the Warsaw uprising in 1944 Prudential was almost totally destroyed by the Germans. Only the steel framework survived.
It was hit by a 2 ton 660 mm howitzer bullet and didnt fall.
Tower not fall.
