Miamis skyline on primetime t.v

Katie Couric is doing her newscast from Watson Island later on tonight and the skyline looks awesome.

CBS4 at 630pm. They will be airing from Miami again tomorrow. The night shots looked great. BoA all in Red and 50 Biscayne with its neon hat.

Yea, I never watch those nightly newscast but, CBS4 did a promo on Katie Couric being in Miami today, so I watched.
The whole newscast was with her infront of the skyline and 50 Biscaynes neon top was really standing out, the also did ariels of the skyline and at the end of the newscast a shot from somewhere in southern brickell showing the skyline very nicely. She said shes back tommorow from Miami again.

I watched for a few minutes but because of all the graphics, etc. I didn't think the skyline was really all that noticeable. Not that CBS should have been doing something different...after all, it was a newscast not a travelogue.

One thing I did notice (and that others have mentioned here) is that the skyline is still too dark at night. We really need more lights on, although I don't know if that's realistic right now.

Anyway, on a marginally related note you have to wonder how much longer CBS will stick with Couric as anchor. Has anybody seen her ratings? It's somewhere between Major League Soccer and "Diff'rent Strokes" reruns. It's been a disaster for them financially.

Anybody remember her on Channel 4 years ago? She was known as "Katherine" Couric back then. There's a clip of her doing a story about Metrorail circa 1984 on youtube.

Just saw it. Her hair is blowing in the wind lol. They're somewhere in watson island. I personally think the skyline looks better from rickenbacker but it still looks good.

Why are they in miami? Is she a miamian?

Ratings for news are down all across the board. I can see why- it's just sooo slow. I had to do something because it was so slow paced.

I'm personally having some difficulties understanding the people who are overwhelmed, obsessed about skylines. Miami has a good looking skyline, ain't no denying but come on now, you make it sound like a fucken cult or something. Secondly, how many of you actually live in the 45th floor in downtown area?
Sounds more like you guys wish you lived there

Couric is not from Miami but she did work at WTVJ briefly in the 1980s. Networks often do their newscasts from different cities. It's just a gimmick they try except, on occassion, when there's a huge news story behind it.

I guess to each his own with the news. To me, most of it is far too superficial and condensed. I prefer longer, more in-depth reporting on individual stories the way PBS and the BBC do it. Even better, I'd say the hell with TV and invest in a subscription to The Economist.

Did you see the jaws cover - that was brilliant. That's my all time fav mag. Long time subscriber. I'ts good to know there is a fellow pragmatic laissez faire inclined buddy around. It's so incredibly rare these days.

I like the BBC.

Anyways, I don't watch CBS Evening News hardly at all anymore. I watched several airings in the begining, but since the ratings have plumetted, I've lost interest. I don't think Katie does a bad job with 60 Minutes (actually, I think she does rather well), but the CBS Evening News is just not for her in my opinion. I still don't think she's rid herself of the fluff morning news of her past career.

Just my 2 cents.

It's a consistently great read. What I like is that it covers so many odd corners of the world that you rarely read much about---that, and the fact that it comes from a foreign perspective which is also refreshing. I tend to be more liberal in my politics than they often are---but I respect their fairness and their ability to say when they were wrong about something (i.e., Iraq).

The Economist and the Sunday NY Times are the two things I can't do without every week. Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey, too...

CBS has dramatically dumbed-down their news content. I can't blame Couric for that since those decisions come from upstairs but she doesn't help matters with that annoyingly "perky" style that seems better suited to cooking segments with "Emeril" or in-depth interviews with Muppets characters.

Edward R. Murrow would be rolling in his grave if he could see CBS News these days. Cronkite, too, but he's still (somewhat) alive.

That is true. the upper hierarchy isn't making the best decisions for the program.

speaking of skyline shots CNBC did a special report tonight regarding the housing market here and showcased the skyline as well as a few buildings. Of course the focus was on the overbuilding going on and some were estimating Miami has a 4 year excess inventory!
The skyline looked great though!

I'm here to talk about real estate with people who know something about it and argue with people who wish they knew about it.

See, here's the trick, you can hate me all much you want but sadly that'll only make me stronger, bigger, badder and better. I ain't going nowhere just because the majority disagrees, the majority of people is usually wrong, that goes with a lot of things in life as well.

You make no sense. You are making fun of people for being obssesed with skylines and buildings. Yet you work or are intrested in real estate and one of the biggest reasons people move to "the city" is to have a skyline view.
