LMAO

I'm intoxicated by the fumes of sarcasm reeked by that statement.

If someone's going to make a show about Miami, WTF don't they just shoot the show in Miami? It's working wonders for Burn Notice. Personally, I cannot stand shows like Boston Legal or even F.R.I.E.N.D.S. that story-wise are based in Boston & NY (respectively), but are shot in LA sound-stages. One of the things that draws me to a show like "30 Rock" is that they don't B.S. with the audience--the whole show is filmed and takes place at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York.

I've been to Long Beach, and it is no stand-in for Miami. I'll add "Miami Trauma" to my list of reasons not to watch CBS.

E! Entertainment Television's Aug. 16 premiere of reality series Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami drew nearly 2.7 million viewers, the second biggest audience in network history.

For you guys who never saw the movie Network (1976), I highly recommend it. Written by Paddy Chayefsky, it is my favorite screenplay. At the time, it seemed far fetched to me, but not anymore! That movie becomes more terrifyingly realistic as each year goes by.

I found this quote on YouTube right after I typed this above. It would appear other people agree with me. This is what somebody on YouTube had to say about it: "A movie made 30 years ago that perfectly describes the situation today about television, news, and the main stream media. It resonates louder and sounds truer today than it did when the movie was made."

TV's `Burn Notice' sets up blast at Arch Creek East Nature Preserve

The Arch Creek East Nature Preserve recently served as the backdrop for an explosive episode of Burn Notice.

BY CARLI TEPROFF
cteproff@MiamiHerald.com

It started with a deafening boom. Then came the powerful flames taking over the wooden planks of a North Miami bridge.

Before long the fire was under control.

With that, Burn Notice -- a show that revolves around a CIA operative working in Miami -- finished up shooting an action-packed scene in North Miami's Arch Creek nature preserve on Aug. 17. The episode, which is part of the show's third season, will air in February or March.

``It was a very controlled explosion,'' the show's producer Terry Miller said. ``Everything was left the way it was when we got there.''

Leonard Ferretti, who takes frequent walks along the nature preserve trials, was surprised when he encountered the Burn Notice crews -- and was told they would be setting off explosives.

``They couldn't find anywhere else to shoot?'' asked Leonard Ferretti, who lives nearby. ``It's like an oxymoron to blow up a bridge in an environmentally protected area where there are fish, birds and other animal life.''

City officials and show representatives say the fire was closely monitored and no wildlife was threatened.

City spokeswoman Pam Solomon said TVM Productions, the production crew that shoots Burn Notice for 20th Century Fox, received all the necessary permits to film the scene. North Miami police officers were also on hand during the shoot.

``This is not something they can just do without clearance from the city,'' Solomon said.

The bridge blow-up was actually a bit of Hollywood magic.

Miller -- who would not reveal too much about the episode -- said that crews built an extension on the existing Northeast 135th Street bridge for the explosion. The show's main character, Michael Westen -- played by Jeffrey Donovan -- rigs the bridge as a diversion. The existing bridge was not compromised, Miller said.

``The preserve was perfect for what we were looking to do,'' Miller said.

North Miami is not new to the spotlight. From the days of Miami Vice to the many commercials shot in residential neighborhoods, Solomon said the city frequently welcomes production crews.

``It is good exposure for the city,'' she said.

Burn Notice has filmed scenes throughout Miami-Dade, including the Coconut Grove Expo Center, Crandon Park Beach, Marine Stadium and locations in downtown Miami and the Miami River.

The area that was used for the Burn Notice scene was recently designated as the Arch Creek East Environmental Preserve, which includes a 13-acre tract of waterfront property. The parcel abuts Florida International University's Biscayne Bay Campus.

As part of the agreement for using the parcel, the show donated $1,000 to the city to set aside for the nature preserve.

North Miami City Councilman Scott Galvin, who represents the Arch Creek area, said he was thrilled the show filmed in the city.

``I'm a huge fan,'' he said. ``I think it will be really neat to be able to say, `Hey that's North Miami.' ''

Agreed, one of the best scripts written hands down. A classic. This show about those people who party all through Miami is a sad joke. We do not need that type of s*** representing us. Even though we all know the city is flooded with them however, they need to stop promoting this crap. I can't stand it. ERRRRR. LOL

Another Network fan here. Incredible movie...incredible performances...and amazingly prescient about the general dumbing-down of society.

With the other show (assuming you mean 'Miami Social') totally agreed. I made it through about 20 minutes and felt nauseous. It might just be the most vapid thing on television---and that's saying plenty!

I'll have to see it. The other day I just watched The Man Who Would Be King, '75 Sean Connery and Micheal Caine. I had never heard of it and it was a brilliant film.

Oh, please do see it, Russ! And let me know what you think when you do. It lost Best Picture to Rocky, but Peter Finch, Faye Dunaway, and Beatrice Straight all won oscars for their acting performances as well as Paddy Chayefsky for the writing. William Holden was also nominated as well as Ned Beatty for a very short role consisting mostly of one very powerful speech in a dark conference room delivered to Peter Finch's character Howard Beale: "YOU HAVE MEDDLED WITH THE PRIMAL FORCES OF NATURE MR. BEALE, AND I WON'T STAND FOR IT!"

That is without a doubt the signature line from that movie!

On a lighter note and more to the point, Mass Mutual is running the same commercial this year during U.S. Open Tennis that is shot from one of the upper floors of BOA at night where you can see Epic, Icon Brickell, and 500 Brickell out of the windows. There is one shot where you can see Asia as well. I'm sure most people watching have no idea what city that is and just assume it's New York or Chicago.

I think 'Taxi Driver' came out that year, too. What a great year for movies.

Robert De Niro has to state something twice over in all of his movie "Just a little bit, just a little bit". "Are you looking at me ,are you looking at me?"

Theres also a new Kobalt-Lowe's comercial with Jimmie Johnson with Downtown Miami as the backdrop for some of it. Only someone like me would notice it though.
