They need to find employment somewhere. The US makes a bunch of shows, they come here looking for acting jobs, and why not? Sometimes our American accents can get heavily redundant, spice it up with a Brit here or there lol.

On another note, I'm happy we're getting another Miami show on TV, but does it have to be another crime/medical show? Nip/Tuck, CSI:Miami, Miami Vice, Burn Notice, Dexter, etc. We're pretty much typecasted. We're more than just crime and hospitals.

I don't see anything wrong with it, that it what audiences want and what most TV is nowadays

here is a clip of them filming 'Miami Medical' in Seal Beach California this week, it doesn't look like Miami at all

^ what good does it do to name a show after Miami and then film it in California?

True enough, but the rarest thing in TV is to have a show actually filmed where it's supposed to take place. Think of all the countless shows with a strong New York identification that were actually filmed in LA, too.

The industry is totally centered there and it's cheaper for them to do it that way---even though agreed we natives will always notice how different it actually looks from the real thing.

What do you suggest? How about a show called 33139 (90210) or perhaps a show about a typical day on the life of a lifeguard on South Florida? Kind of like that show they had in California with Pamela Anderson!!

Agreed...now you know this is a show I will not watch...if it is not filmed in Miami, what's the point. Not interested....

I'm not the producer, I'm sure they can come up with more clever shows than the same old even if it is successful. A family drama, teenage show, comedy, Sex and the City-type of show, a Friends-type of show, etc. There are millions of other ideas for other shows.

I suppose viewers don't really see Miami as a normal city in that way. Perhaps Miami Medical can be a step on the way towards that.

What, CSI:Miami doesn't give viewers a positive view of Miami? Haha....it may be one of the most ridiculous shows on TV right now.

There have been 2 recent attempts to make Sex and the City type shows (Lipstick Jungle and Cashmere Mafia) and both failed.

Personally, I think Miami Vice is still one of the better TV shows of the last 25 years.

Agreed. I just can't get into it at all and the storylines are often ludicrous. I'd rather watch Gordon Ramsay going ballistic in a kitchen or Family Guy reruns.

I thought Vice faded quite a bit its last season or two but before that it was groundbreaking television, agreed.

The funniest Vice-related story I remember was back in 1984 or so. Don Johnson was brought into the Dolphins Orange Bowl lockerroom to meet the players and Coach Shula. When Johnson was introduced as being "from Miami Vice" Shula reportedly shook his hand and said "you guys are doing a great job"---believing him to be an actual cop.

Honestly, it is not economically wise to shoot down here when they can fake it for much cheaper. Personally, I think it is an abomination to do that but hey, it is what it is. A lot of shows and/or movies paint Miami in such a false light IMO. The only show that captures Miami the closest is Dexter. It seems they really weave Miami into the story and not just use it as a back drop. And a lot of their references are on point. But that is my peace.

Part of the reason I like burn notice is that its filmed in Miami, there just isn't this fake feeling you get watching other shows.

Agreed about the economics involved. It's just a lot easier to do that stuff where the industry is located in Los Angeles---especially with network audience share and revenue greatly reduced from where it used to be because of cable and the internet. They have to look out for their own financial interests, too, even if we don't always like the 'faux' results.

I think you're right about Dexter, btw. I've seen little of the show but we have a door guy at work who's never been anywhere near Miami but is a fan of the series and was asking me recently---as the resident 'Miami Guy'---about "Mount Trashmore" and batidos since they were apparently referenced. Sounds like the writers are doing their homework on local flavor aside from the same old stock footage and familiar themes.

^The writing on Dexter is superb. The best writing I have seen in a while. And again, with the exception of a few things Dexter really gets on the street level with Miami. If you understand what I'm saying. Every other show I feel so disconnected from the city, the same stock shots, the same bongo music, so-on and so forth. The show Burn Notice is filmed in an old house right down the street from me. I have seen bits and pieces of that show but I really don't like it... it is just a bad show IMHO.

I think the Cocaine Cowboys TV show next year will be excellent, HBO usually does a great job and that era is fascinating.

Wow! I love that documentary. And HBO... We're talking quality stuff here!

I'm starting to like HBO for all their HQ stuff nowadays. And since I'm somewhat of a history buff, it's not that odd that HBO is in my liking.
I'd wish they lay of the liberal rethoric though.

True, HBO is great but when they do Sports or Politics it is unwatchable.
