Do I detect a hint of sarcasm in that statement?

Absolutely not

No, really, I agree that it is interesting to hear how the noises sound. I'm glad that people posted the videos, I just wanted to utter that they are useless for comparing the noise levels. Maybe everybody realized it already and I'm just a smartass...

There are curves on line 1 and 2 but there is still comfortable there, with little noise. This noise, I may say it's muffled and doesn't disturb a lot.

Sounds from the underground.

We have the "noisiest metro" thread, what about unique/interesting sounds that some systems make?

Here is the Vancouver Skytrain (older train)

Stuttgart's S-Bahn, although this model is used troughout Germany. It makes kind of a weird whiny/yelp sound.

Munich's U-Bahn, this is the way a subway "should" sound like.

London's Jubilee Line makes the best sound

Train arriving

Train departing

My favorite are the rubber-tired trains in Paris metro

Three type of rubber tired train none of them have the same sound. I can chose wich of them has the best sound, maybe the MP59, I love the sound of the departing.

MP 59

MP 73

MP 89

I love the MP89s.

Refurbished "C151" Trains. C151 stands for Contract 151, in this case used to identify different generation models. This is the 1st generation train.

2nd generation, Siemens "C651" Trains.

3rd generation, "C751B" Trains.

Like Paris, all have different tunes. The most unique of the batch has to be the C751B I think.

Then we also have the Alstom Metropolis.

The new NYC subway cars on the IRT lines (2,4,5,6) can be deafening when hearing them fly past you from the outside. When they stop at the stops, they make a loud roaring sound that goes away only when the train starts moving again. However, from the inside, these trains are some of the quietest on the NYC subway. The R32 cars are some of the loudest from the inside (A,C,E, and sometimes runs on the R,F,N), but are not louder than the average NYC subway train from the outside.

London

1967 Stock

1992 Stock

And the sound before any deep level tube train enters a platform

Finally I like the sound of Thameslink trains (British Rail Class 319)

From other systems, I like the MP89 and Moscow Metro acceleration/decceleration sounds. Whoever voted for the 1996 Stock on the Jubilee line, I disagree! When you have to use it nearly everyday that noise drives you up the wall!

Very interesting thread, indeed.
Minato_Ku, didn't you mix up writing that in the second movie there's an MP 73? It should be different, It is the same MP 59.

No it a MP73, not an MP59, in the second Movie.
These trains have not the same face and don't make the same sound.

toronto`s -- why? because they don`t ballast their underground train tracks -- the concrete flooring there appears to amplify the din no matter the speed of a train there --mind you, they ballast their overground sections over there......
