Ah okay didn't see that. Would they really be looking into moving here though? Since they're trying to downsize or save money? Or is this alot cheaper than anywhere else?

Related is offering very cheap rents on the office space in order to jump-start the critical mass in this district. They're essentially leasing the space at cost because they expect to make their profit on the high end residential they will build once the district is established.

Here's yet another article proclaiming the start of Hudson Yards:

Construction begins on Hudson Yards in New York City

And there's this:

Quote:
Two of the tallest remaining towers have been designed by other prominent New York firms:

D Tower

Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Rockwell Group
72 stories
844 feet (257 meters) tall
800,000 square feet (square meters)

E Tower

Designed by David M. Childs / Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
60 stories
950 feet (290 meters) tall
1.1 million square feet (102,000 square meters)

As Swalizand noted, space here is quite a deal. Sony made a massive profit on its purchase of the Madison Ave tower from AT&T. By purchasing at cost in the North Tower, it would be poised to make another enormous profit in this emerging area.

Moreover, in addition to its 800k sqf of space on Madison, it occupies space elsewhere in Manhattan too. I would not be surprised to see it buy 500k sqf in the North Tower, and to put the back office people in LIC, Brooklyn, JC, Stamford, etc.

Or concetrate all into one location? Or is that not possible?

Not really. Many companies, in order to cut costs, leave their top executives in Manhattan, and put back office people in JC, LIC, etc.

The E-Tower is awesome too. It looks like a 950 foot version of Trump Chicago sans the antenna.

I like that one more than any other building planned there (Before the redesign of the twins). It's gorgeous.

What is the tower hidden behind the E Tower?

A few years ago, a 950 foot structure of this calibre would have been a showstopper in NY. Now, it's lost in the crowd of stunning projects.

I don't know which render you mean, but it could be both the One Hudson Yards and the 3 Hudson Boulevard.

i wish the e tower was taller to stand out more because its really beautiful lol should have been like 1200 feet to stand out with all those towers planned in that area

So there is only 1 supertall in the first phase of construction? What are the chances that either the E tower's height is increased or that we see a supertall in phase 2?

I hope that the North Tower's height will be increased. I'm not a big fan of the design but if it would be taller than 1WTC I might warm up to it just for height's sake

If I remember correctly, it still should have the highest top floor by 3 feet.
