I just did a Google search on the HY and a came across something that was never mentioned here. First time hearing of this myself.

Is there a statue planned for the plaza that will be as large as lady liberty??
lol. That's huge!

Article:
http://gothamist.com/2012/12/04/phot..._b.php#photo-1

Quote:
the first phase alone is expected to include four mixed-use buildings with commercial, retail and residential space, as well as a cultural center and a luxury hotel. Coming on its heels will be a refurbished riverfront park, a 5-acre plaza "with a sculpture as large as Lady Liberty," a new public school and more.

Ross, Related's CEO, keeps saying that he's searching worldwide for an artist to sculpt a monumental fountain/statue.

How could they have an insecurity complex about NY? It's one of the best skyscraper cities on the planet.

THE best skyscraper city in the world! You can't get this mix of art deco and modern anywhere in the world. The variety of buildings in terms of shapes, size and cultural significance is uncomparable.

The liberty is 300 ft tall. Cool... that there will be some kind of epic sculpture in the Yards. Looking forward to what it will be.

If it will be a fountain, It probably would be the tallest in the world? I wonder how a 300ft fountain would work. LOL!

I was looking at the model of the north tower at the Architecture Museum in Greenwich Village recently. The base is quite interesting. On the north corner, there is a dramatic multi-story shard, which can be seen upon close inspection of this photo.

When viewed from the side, it appears to run along the whole width of the base along 10th Ave., because it protrudes further out from the rest of the base.

I think he may be referring to the pics of Robert, in which the HY look very large.

Yeah that's how I read it too. But they're only out of scale because there's no context of the dozen+ major projects going on around it, including HY Phase II. If it was just going to be those four towers and nothing else, it would look awkward and unfortunate, but the plan here is to jumpstart an entire gigantic neighborhood. Gotta look at the big picture.

I just hope something more dominant is in the pipeline somewhere, because the more I see of the North tower, the less I like it.

I think, it's ok. New York needs some more iconic towers or even districts except of 432 park, WTC and ESB.

The only reason these look large is because they're surrounded by not much. If you dump these into the heart of midtown it would look like it fits in perfectly.

I'm only going to talk about this because I saw this very picture on skyscraperpage with a supertall near the Time Warner Center. I was wondering if anyone here has any idea of what this project is called. It's amazing!

That looks like the site of One Lincoln Plaza on B'Way and W 63rd St. It's a condo with hundreds of units.

It's some architecture student's thesis or project or something like that. They discussed it on Skyscraperpage too. It's not a concrete proposal, was never meant to be and won't be built

True. That building is a condo with over 600 units. It would be very hard for a developer to buy them all.

P.S.: I believe that the building on this site is where Senator Palatine's office was located in Taxi Driver. As this building is from the early 1970s, "Palatine's office" must have been razed shortly after the film was shot.
