D.O.B. permit filings:

As we all know they have to build the platform first. My guess is that we'll see the North Tower U/C by early 2014.

Here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...postcount=2807

It's opposite the South Tower where you can see the blue crane sticking out (rail yards).

This is Brookfields method. Related has a much bigger job to do but should be similar.
WOW!

I knew there was a project going up over this section of the Amtrak/LIRR tracks but I did not know they were that far along on the deck/platform.

I'm not a structural engineer, but those beams look incredible in the photos. I'm assuming these beams will become the traveling launcher.

Those trains/tracks feed the busiest train station in North America, NY's Pennsylvania Station. I do not think they could be moved or even temporarily shutdown in any realistic fashion.
SuperStorm Sandy flooded part of the yards and at least one of the Hudson River tunnels that connect to the yards. That was a major disaster for Amtrak, NJ Transit and the LIRR and all the riders of those services.

The LIRR's Maintenance of Equipment (MOE) facility in the East Rail Yard will be shutdown for ~2 years to prep for Related's platform and that could impact recovery from LIRR trains breaking down in Penn Station.

The Amtrak tunnel box that will underlay a portion of the East Rail Yard has started the demolish-existing-structures phase. In this case, the north end of the MOE bldg.
AFAIK, the west end of the tunnel box will support the load of Tower D's north columns. I also assume that down in the rail yard, LIRR's MOE bldg will have to be rebuilt BEFORE Related can start building the south east section of the platform. That section of the platform is labeled "retail".

There's an amazing amount of interlocked construction going on here. I'd be impressed if they met their currently published schedules.

This helicopter view was posted in the one57 thread and I finally had some free time to make a render.

Manhattan west is pretty rough, here it is omitted.

I thought that the hudson yards towers were going to frame the ESB (looking from the hudson river). Is that other planned building in the way?

That's not a final design, rather a mere placeholder for Manhattan West.

Great render, Funky! Once we get some massing models or renders for HY Phase II, it'll be great to see that whole new East-West corridor of towers leading towards the Empire State Building. And that's before we even consider the several extra towers likely to rise along the Hudson Park and Boulevard.

We don't know yet what the Manhattan West towers are going to look like, but since they're spaced closer together, yes, they will likely blocks a good chunk of the "framed" view of ESB.

Also any idea as to when Coach tower will start rising? as someone posted on here about a month ago that this building would be above the highline by august

Re South/Coach Tower rising: IIRC I read a post that said above HL by END of August.
The photo below was posted by rvlch in railroad.net on Monday 8/12. It shows the top of the coach tower foundation/forms a few feet below street level. The foundation is to the right of the white/blue tower crane in upper middle & to the left of the high line. Photo is looking east from the 11th Ave viaduct, apparently straight down the 31st street alignment.

I assume the yellow construction equipment on the right is working on the foundations for the culture shed/platform & parking garage, etc.

Photo's railroad emphasis is because it shows the start of the demolition of the north (left) portion of the LIRR's Maintenance of Equipment building. The MOE bldg is the white structure with six big RR track doors on it.This is to prep the east rail yard pit for the excavation of Amtrak's gateway tunnel box. This tunnel box will be built roughly underneath the concrete path that runs between the upper left of and lower right of photo. The tunnel box has to be built AND the LIRR MOE bldg rebuilt BEFORE the Hudson Yard's retail platform is built above the MOE bldg. There might be foundation work for the Hudson Yards platform ongoing in other areas of the pit that do not interfere with tunnel box contractor Tutor Perrini.

LOTS of activities to coordinate amongst Amtrak, LIRR, Related, NYC and their MANY contractors & subs.

It's a shame the picture is so far away, the renders lost all the detail. Note I shrunk MW a bit to make seeing 432 easier but it is probably a more realistic size anyhow.

Thought this was pretty cool, I found this model of tower verre and by making it a phong and using an high contrast version of the textures, I was able to set up white texture = specular windows and black texture = diffuse beams.

Not bad for 30 seconds additional work.
